"due to a number of AI-generated patches around Linux's AppleTalk support recently flooding the mailing lists for this likely rarely-used to never-used protocol in modern times, it's been decided to now be a maintenance burden and thus the support is removed from the mainline kernel."

Hey everyone. Support your instance admin if you can afford to. Infrastructure unfortunately isn't free and it'd be awesome if you can kick in a few bucks to help out right now.

We want to be around for a long time and be a safe haven from giant corporate social media.

So turns out that the oem headunit in my 04 4Runner can handle MULTIPLE external cd changers for some reason, I plugged in a splitter and suddenly I have cd, cd1 and cd2

I can get a morse code pad from gboard but god forbid I want an "!" next to space instead of a "." Which I already have mapped to a space double tap

Ok but seriously, Android, why is there not a single keyboard in existence that mirrors the layout of the Samsung keyboard?

All I'm looking for is a keyboard that I can remap the punctuation keys, and has a symbol layer that remembers the number row exists (that also is consistent between the tap hold peek & full view)

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. We know the holiday times can be hard for some of you.
We want to let you know you are our friend and we're sending you good tidings

So long for now

You gotta love yourself, cause like, you deserve it. Don't be harder on yourself than u are on others. Be kind, you do so much!!

Being plural makes friendships hard

As an aside -- any company trying to talk about privacy that not only implements AI moderation _on private direct messages_ and makes that decision final, and unappealable, but also requires you *legal name* in all support correspondences is obviously not a good company

Well, after appealing an automated account freeze multiple times without any replies from support, looks like Telegram just decided to fully delete our account and ban our phone number forever.

Still got a signal though, if anyone wants to reach out.

Not every day do you get to see a genuine Blue Box

Unpopular opinion:

480p is absolutely fine for watching old shows that were aired in SD, you just need better bitrates

So with the release of drivers and a loader that enable NT 3.5/4.0's ppc builds on the gamecube and wii, how long until we can accomplish the same for the MIPS release on the PS2?

Firewire still rocks in 2025

This is not in fact, the first time tzdata has completely destroyed apt's ability to work when not set to UTC on one of my installs. In fact, this is the 3rd time this has happened. And there is no easy fix. No "just reinstall a fresh image". A silly little "set your timezone" package touches so many things that you can't remove it normally without getting thrown into rescue shell either. It's infuriating that this is the state of things. On UBUNTU of all distros

Today I had to image a raspberry pi 4 with Ubuntu 24.04 server, and I decided to pre-set the timezone to eastern standard in pi-imager. Simple stuff. Boot the pi, run apt update && apt upgrade and... it fails. Fresh install! Why? Tzdata package is broken and is refusing to fix.
The solution was estortic. I had to dig into dpkg, remove it in a way that the whole system didnt die, manually re-write the timezone files, then reinstall it.
