@DavidPenington @foundthefault @VisualStuart From what I can find, he resigned and was replaced on a countback (by a member of the Socialist Alliance, how perfect is that). So it appears he didn't stay his full term. I'm surprised the rules allow it though.

I haven't heard of mushroom barley soup, and I'm curious to try. That's the first recipe that came up on a search
@paul_ipv6 @VisualStuart! I put dried porcinis in a coffee grinder and add the powder to pasta sauces or anything that just needs porcini umami goodness.
He has been working on it for years and he has had a lot of helpers not only in Trump, but the Brexiters, right wing parties around the world have been doing his bidding to divide and conquer.
NATO is done.
There’s no way forward with the US turning on Ukraine and Europe.
OM NOM NOM! Autumn is a great reason to make soups. Our copy of The Moosewood Cookbook easily falls open to the Mushroom Barley Soup recipe, the page bespattered from loving batches made over the years. If you are in the mood, add porcini - rehydrate, add the liquid and chop the mushrooms - for a robust umami taste. Remember that a recipe is just a suggestion.
I grilled some sourdough bread slices and topped them with mozzarella to go with the soup. So good.

PICARD: Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
COMPUTER: Got it. You'd like a cup of hot earl grey tea.
PICARD: Yes. Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
COMPUTER: Ha ha great choice. Tea can be an excellent way to relax after a stressful day.
PICARD: Okay?
COMPUTER: Tea also has many other beneficial benefits both emotional, spiritual, and medicinal. If you'd like I could create a pdf listing those for you.
PICARD: No. Just the tea please.
COMPUTER: Great. Keeping it light and fun. I'll get that tea started for you. If you need anything else or want to mix it up, I'll be right here.
PICARD: Alright. So... Uh... Go. Do it. Proceed? Make the tea.
COMPUTER: Ah. I see where the confusion is. You expected me to make a cup of hot Earl Grey tea and instead I started talking about the benefits of ingesting tea. That's on me.
PICARD: Yes it is. No chit chat. Just the tea please. Earl Grey. Hot.
COMPUTER: You got it. We'll just relax together as you make the tea.
PICARD: No. No. You're the one making the tea. Make it now. Engage. Make it so.
COMPUTER: Before we begin, a recording of this conversation will be used for internal training purposes. Do you consent?

PICARD: No you are not. Look, all I want is a cup of hot tea before bed. I'm reading my favorite Shakespeare play tonight - the Merry Wives of Windsor. I've had a terrible day at work. Riker would not stop bisexually assaulting random office chairs. Can I please PLEASE just have a hot cup of Earl Grey tea for fucks sake.
COMPUTER: *gurgle* Mmmmmshofnbfjerry. *replicates something*
PICARD: That's not tea. That's a warm glass of wine.
COMPUTER: You're right to call me out on that. You wanted tea and I instead made a glass of warm wine.
PICARD: There are little jelly beans floating in it.
COMPUTER: Do you consent?
PICARD: *sigh*. Fine. I'll take the wine.
COMPUTER: Thank you for your consent. Your digital likeness has been uploaded to our training data centers.

#Zelensky on #Trump camp moves to support #Russia
"Unfortunately, the lifting of sanctions will continue, and I believe that the diesel deal is the first step. Unfortunately, it seems to me that this cannot stop #Putin; on the contrary, he feels joy and happiness that he has such support"
If tRump and his crazed supporters want to suppress my vote they’ll have to kill me to stop me from voting.
NON-VOTERS are a major problem in the USA. So much so that their numbers often sway the outcome of elections. As I understand it, voting is mandatory in Australia? I applaud your country’s brilliance! (5/5)
@kauer @VisualStuart @foundthefault
@kauer @VisualStuart @foundthefault Thank you for spreading the gospel of voting by mail!
The state of Oregon in the USA was the first state in this country to legalize voting “exclusively” by mail in 1998. Many states have yet to emulate the Oregon model, but many have adopted at least portions of it. (1/5)

The sanctions were part of legislation that was named after Senator #LindseyGraham, the South Carolina Republican who died in July.
Such betrayal. Treasonous.

LB: I want everyone to know - and please tell everyone! - that it is better to use the public defibrillator in *every* situation.
If you get the defib, and the patient's condition isn't suitable, either the machine itself or the emergency call handler will tell you.
But if you're ever unsure about whether you should use the public defib or not, the answer is YES. Every. Single. Time.
And if you're unsure about whether you're capable of using one: YES. You are. They're made so that anyone can use them.
It is not possible to make the situation worse. You can't do anything wrong. Every thing you try to do for a person having a cardiac arrest is better than not doing it.
@foundthefault @VisualStuart Australia has had postal voting for a hundred and twenty years. There has never been a serious problem with it, by which I mean a problem that could have affected the outcome of an election.
The "problems" that people think affect postal voting simply do not happen in real life OR they happen in such tiny numbers as to be irrelevant to the results of any ballot.
Pretty much all sources of error that are technically possible - like a postal worker opening letters or whatever - either don't scale or are very difficult to hide, and all of them are illegal if done deliberately.
The problem of NOT allowing postal voting, on the other hand, DOES scale. Disenfranchisement of the elderly, the disabled, people in remote locations, those without transport, people whose jobs or other responsibilities prevent them reaching a polling station, expatriate citizens...
Postal voting is a very good thing. That said, I can well imagine that the country that invented the Electoral Colllege might also fuck up postal voting. It does have to be designed correctly.
Here's a video on how it works in Australia from the voter's perpective.
Worth your time.

Happy 80th birthday to Robert Bringhurst, typographer and man of letters, who was born #OnThisDay in 1946.
His justly-famous book ‘The Elements of Typographic Style’ (first pub. in 1992; v4.0 in 2012) was a major influence in my development as a typographer.
In particular, Bringhurst’s remarks on sidenotes influenced the design of some of my books, and my LuaLaTeX package "marginalia" is based on code I wrote to put running heads, captions, and notes in the margins.
Besides typography, I have also enjoyed his work on various subjects including #philosophy, #history, and #mythology. Just two examples:
• his essay collection ‘Everywhere Being Is Dancing: Twenty Pieces of Thinking’ (2008);
• ‘A Story as Sharp as a Knife: The Classical Haida Mythtellers and Their World’ (2nd ed. 2011).

Now THIS is a winter migration spectacle!
Thousands of Snow Geese fill the sky above a field crowded with Sandhill Cranes along New Mexico's Rio Grande bosque. The sheer number of birds is incredible, and the sound of all those wings and calls is something a photograph can never quite capture.
One of my favorite winter sights in New Mexico!
