Starting a new category of apps called “spite coding”

This year we're excited to live stream our keynote sessions, free to everyone! Join us at https://buff.ly/AkQw7se tomorrow (Friday, Oct 16th) at 9am and 5pm (CDT)

Virtual tickets for Friday are still available, including recordings after the conference! https://buff.ly/pT8zS2c

All the people who are claiming AI-written code and projects aren’t real code or that Vibe coding isn’t real work need to stop a moment and read this slowly. The job was never about writing code any more than a carpenter’s job was about pounding in nails. It’s about knowing what cuts to make, and how to support the project. The code just needs to get out of the way to let the real work happen.

Every time I go on LinkedIn, I remember how much I dislike LinkedIn. Every time.

I loathe tailwind.

Fifteen years ago I started a podcast called Developing Perspective. After four years of doing that show and then 10 years of recording Under the Radar with Marco, I thought my podcasting had come to a natural end.

Well, a lot has changed in the world of indie app development. 😳

So I'm dusting off my microphone again and starting to podcast once more. My first episode wrestles with why being an indie app developer right now feels so pivotal, in both senses of the word.

Sending death threats over a discussion about LLMs is not okay.

What are we even doing?

@grmpyprogrammer

Did I ever tell you about the job interview I had with Microsoft?

They contacted me for a follow up round, 6 months later.

When I had a job already.

It's always been broken. At least you are hearing back.

To the people complaining these sex abuse cases have created a world where men now have to think 10 times before they touch a woman.

Yes, that's the point.

It's called consent. Welcome to human decency.

Last night I queued up a rather difficult email to the @longhorn list (https://longhornphp.com/2026-future-email).

tl;dr: attendance is tracking down year-over-year, and last year was far from where we wanted to be. Ticket sales are telling us that the event has run its course.

I disagree with this...IMO learning from other humans in community has actually never been more important...but the proof's in the attendance.

I'd love to keep running Longhorn, so if you can make it out this year, I'd appreciate it <3

NativePHP has given PHP developers the ability to ship web apps as native iOS and Android apps. Like many things, just because one can doesn’t mean they should. Join @TheCodeLorax for "That’s your website, not your app" to learn about the different expectations users of mobile apps have and how to meet those expectations while using NativePHP. This is me.

Spicy Take: Those complaining about AI destroying the Art of Coding missed the point long ago, and it has nothing to do with AI. Professional coding has nothing to do with Art. It’s about delivering features and functionality to customers and the company. That’s why rewrites and unbounded refactors are always a bad idea. They consume resources without delivering value outside the art within the code.

It also isn’t about knowing and understanding the code fully. Within a team on any non-trivial project, no single person can know every section of code. People come and go from teams. There is always a section of code that was only understood by the guy who left 5 years ago and now everyone is afraid to touch. It’s also common to have a team member who only generates slop without testing, but isn’t fired for reasons no one understands.

The printing press didn’t destroy the Art of Calligraphy from Scribes. It just made the written word more widely available. This is the printing press for code.

@siracusa Google Keep added a Squirrel List feature!

My favorite CarPlay feature is when it's reading a text message to me and I go to tap the "Done" button and it suddenly turns into a "Call” button underneath my finger and I have to wait for all of the animations to finish before I can actually end the call and then I wonder (a) did the person notice that I called them for a few seconds and (b) do I need to explain that now and (c) are they going to call me back now and (d) HOW DID THIS INTERFACE EVER SHIP oh my god

That's it. That's the tweet.
