Do not donate a penny to Wikimedia until the union is recognized

[Edit to add: If you are pausing donations, as I am, one thing you can do is email them at donate@wikimedia.org to let them know why.]

[Edit 2: here is what the union is asking for instead of pausing donations https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Workers_United#Solidarity . That said financial support is how I support Wikipedia, so I'm still going the financial route for putting pressure on the organization.]

Criterion 50% off flash sale is on, for those who are into that sort of thing. Think I'll snag the new 4K release of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

ETA: I see they've bumped the criterion.com free shipping threshold from $50 to $75, so now I have to decide whether I want to grab 3 more movies or would prefer to wait until the next Barnes and Noble sale in July.

I just want to remind people that - in addition to all of the other things it is - war is a mechanism for wealth transfer to people who already have most of the wealth. It can be understood as part of the decades-long project of the right to shovel more into the pockets of the wealthy.

@jimsalter Re: your message on Ars: Nah, that was my flounce; I hit Post and logged out. Aurich ejecting me after I was already gone is like that bit in Clerks where Randal runs after the lady who's already walked out of the store to shout "Hey, you're not allowed to rent here anymore!"

I don't really post there on the regular anymore, and disagreements with Aurich (and management) about moderation rules are the reason why. Might pop back in to talk about MST3K or whatever.

I finished Transformers US Compendium 1 and started GI Joe Compendium 1.

I've always been more of a Transformers guy than a GI Joe guy but *wow* it's pretty impressive how much better a comic GI Joe is right off the bat. I don't think I'm blowing any minds when I say Hama is a better writer than Budiansky, and it's got Trimpe on pencils right out the gate.

GI Joe #1 is better than 48 out of the 50 comics in the Transformers Compendium.

Ooh, neat, Humble Bundle's got a Charlie Jane Anders and Annalee Newitz bundle on. Includes their latest, Lessons in Magic and Disaster and Automatic Noodle, respectively, at the $10 tier. I've been looking forward to checking those out.

Wow! Breath of Fire 4 is now available on GOG!

I've been leery of giving Capcom my money since that business about adding Enigma DRM to already-purchased games, and I haven't bought much from GOG since switching to Linux as my primary gaming OS, but I want to encourage this kind of preservation effort so I might go ahead and grab it. It's GOG, so at least we know they won't be adding DRM.

Said goodbye to my best friend today.

She used to do this thing where she'd put one ear up. It always made us smile.

It was the last thing she did. Leave us smiling.

Goodbye, Artemis.

A wide ask here so please boost: my grandfather is trying to get rid of an old business computer, and I was wondering whether any vintage computer people might want it. It was purchased for $50k from The Ultimate Corporation in the early 80s. This ran the Pick operating system, and my best guess is the hardware was originally manufactured by GE or Honeywell. It's about the size of a half-rack and currently lives in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. It has sat covered in plastic in a chemical warehouse for the past 35 years. Where do people usually post stuff like this other than here? Thanks!

I've got my issues with Bill Willingham, but I have to admit that responding to your publisher jerking you around with "Fuck you, it's all public domain now" is a baller move.
