Reminder: Lake Ontario was renamed in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). That’s our official national database, corrupted under executive order, feeding to everyone using it, and that’s there until it’s changed back in 2-20 years. Maybe.

"Lake America, previously referred to as Lake Ontario, is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and serves as a significant freshwater body bordered by the United States and Canada."

Figaro regularly rotates through a variety of curled up poses on his spot on the couch. Sometimes he uncurls like a possum.

Had this essay sitting in a tab for a couple weeks. I’ve found it to be accurate.

"Everyone Wants To Think They're Open-Minded. Here's Why Most People Aren't"

Pip gave me some side eye but otherwise sat still to let me capture this morning photo.

No kidding. Microsoft knew they couldn’t; we all knew they couldn’t.

Mac users can so easily understand why touchscreen UI elements don’t work on their desktop OS, while showing no sympathy to iPad users who want to keep desktop UI elements off our touchscreen OS.

When Fig first entered the house, my wife made the mistake of separating him from the others by feeding him on the kitchen counter. He’s been fed on the floor since, but he still thinks he can find better food up there.

Turn our backs for a minute (ok, maybe longer), and Pip pounces on the pile of freshly laundered bed sheets like Jawas on a junk droid. Dank farrik.

My attempt at a kale soup in clear broth bloomed into a tribute to the Trump Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Letting it stew to get the potato and carrot softer than tender per my wife’s taste, but it is fully cooked and tastes like summer. When done, it will be adorned with roasted purple cauliflower instead of chunks of blue paint.

Side note: if Apache POI is listed as the author on your Microsoft Word document, I will now assume your chatbot output it directly to Word.

Enjoyed a “fight fire with fire” moment today when I ran a blatantly AI generated paper through AI detection service, Pangram. I’d already determined the paper was AGI three different ways, but I’d been interested in testing Pangram for a bit when this naturally occurring opportunity knocked. Tested fully AI vs. two controls testing fully human. Still wouldn’t trust it alone, but I’ll keep it bookmarked as a confirmation tool.

While others rail against gen AI taking their job, I’ve spent the better part of two days and counting unslopping PowerPoint slides. A boss, one of many, has been running slides, mostly taken from presentations we made, through a chatbot to get them “just right”for this weekend’s big meeting, and they are so wrong. It’s barfing out slide sized images, not editing the slides, so I’ve been matching the arrangements and swapping in real images for slop like this melted mofo. 🤮

Seems like a good day to re-up this reminder: “Google’s mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
Which information? The world’s. Are we part of the world? Yes. Do they need to access and use all our info to fulfill their mission? Obviously. Don’t we get access and use too? Sure, but there’s no mention in the mission of cost or presentation. If indexing is a process, AI is ultra processed.

Enjoying a fresh cup of 100% Kauai grown yellow bourbon coffee this morning.

Refill box arrived the day I was on my last scoop of Maui grown. Kona grown gets the most attention, but I dare say Kauai is just as fine. #Coffee

The other day, Fig was resting next to his mama when he caught wind of something in the blanket and starting chewing on it. There was nothing in it, not even her toes. This blanket is made of recovered wool, so maybe it was instinct kicking in.

Fig and I are enjoying a week off in our own ways, he more than me in several respects.

I understand our special military operation in Iran is called Operation Epstein Fury. Do not correct me. That is what it is. Keep repeating it until Emperor PalOfEpstein says it.

Fig has started to return the favor in Harley’s game of “I’m not touching you.” He doesn’t follow Harley around, but he does join him for a nap at foreleg’s length at times.

Happy Groundhog Day to all who… blah-blah-blah-blah. There is no way that this winter is ever going to end as long as this groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don’t see any other way out.
He’s gotta be stopped.

My wife bought this fluffy bed for Figaro shortly after he officially joined our clowder. Neither he nor either of the other two showed any interest in it, so I started swapping it out for the beds they already use, and my trickery has paid off.
