Three years ago, two 11 year old girls, Eva and Emily, from Devon decided to help Britain’s collapsing wildlife by breeding hundreds of harvest mice in their garages and then releasing them into the wild. Then they set up Wild Pets. https://wild-pets.org/ so other kids could join in.
Now they could do with a bit of help …
They have the backing of some big names like Chris Packham, Hedgehog Hugh & Derek Gow. Please help if you can.

I spent this afternoon at a friend's house, bothering her puppy until he fell asleep first on my legs, and then on my feet. 😂 #dogsofmastodon

This morning the scaffolders arrived. They were disappointingly unlike a flock of starlings, there was only two of them. Anyway they have set up the scaffold, drunk some of my coffee without complaint, and gone on their merry way. Good thing I pointed out early on that my backdoor opens outwards, or I'd be trapped! 😱

@moonrabbit (Now I have given up painting, and have washed my brushes out.) How are you doing today? Is life being any kinder to you?

My chainsaw is finally fixed! 🎉

It is this kind of morning here. Damp.

Sent my concerns about some failing trees, planted in town in the last few years, to my Tree Warden coordinator, who passed them to the relevant person in the council. Just got a direct reply from said person, which cites strategies and policies at me, but effectively amounts to - mind your own business, and if you want to be useful water the trees yourself!
Such a supportive council! I feel so valued. I shall expect to see her at all the tree planting events this winter 🙄🤬

I shall be joining the scaffolding club later this month. @helenclayton

Today I attended a u3a meeting for new members. It was a little odd. Lots of walking aides, even more retired teachers. I was told by one person that I looked too young to be there … I’m not. I started to say to a committee person, who wanted me to join more groups, that I’m getting very busy right now. “Oh we’re all always busy”, she replied. I tried to explain to her that now is when I start working in the wood for the winter, but whilst she was still looking at me, she wasn’t listening. 🤷🏻

LD is having a bit of a nightmare getting back from Mexico City to Calgary. Her flight should have left at 1.15am, but is actually going to be leaving some time around now, which is after 7am.
Having got herself an aisle seat for the 5 hour flight, a couple asked LD if she would swap for their middle seat so that they could sit together. LD said no and the woman then sat sobbing next to her until cabin crew found someone else to swap with her. LD told me "I'm too tired to deal with this"

Dashed outside with kibble for the hedgehogs around 10pm. Took a picture of the harvest moon and came back indoors. Seconds later I looked out of the window and a hedgehog was eating kibble. I have trained them well 😊🦔

I asked a roofer to come round and give me a quote for some work, & he came this afternoon. He is very personable and professional, and seems confident that he knows what the problems are, including one that has been tackled 3 times before by 2 different roofers 🤞

I was going to say read this if you need a giggle, but mine was less of a giggle and more of a hoot. 😂

My first attempt at repairing a large patch of wall. It looks flatter than it feels, but at least it is smooth 😂

Afterwards a friend introduced me to her husband as - Sarah who owns a bit of woodland.
"We thought about buying a piece of woodland once. Now you you've seen the film, you'll be able to coppice yours." He said slightly arrogantly.
"I've been coppicing it for 13 years" I replied.
He went very quiet. 2/2

I went to a screening of Six Inches of Soil last night. I know I am old and have an odd life-history, but I am constantly surprised by how little lots of people know about the environment and farming etc. 1/2

I have a neighbour who has a damaged 4' high fence and a pet dog. She has been trying to get someone to fix it cheaply for her without success. So I'm thinking that I could knock something together using hazel poles. What do you think? Something sturdy enough to keep a big dog in?
