“In a social media post on Thursday, Poilievre highlighted comments the prime minister made on Sept. 13 on home soil, when he said Canada is ‘not looking to become a member of the European Union.’
Alongside those remarks, Poilievre contrasted comments Carney made on Thursday in Europe, when he told the European Parliament that Canada ‘welcomes’ the ambition to become the European Union’s first associate member.
‘How can Canadians trust Prime Minister Mark Carney when he says one thing in Canada and the opposite in Europe?’ Poilievre wrote.”
For someone who hopes to be prime minister someday, he should look up the difference between ‘member’ and ‘associate member.’
As a member of the EU Canada would be subject to EU regulations and taxation. As an associate member it will not, but will be able to avail itself of negotiated benefits by aligning with the EU.
Of course PP is just engaging in his usual rage farming.
