A buddy of mine works at a place where they did the "please! use as many llm tokes as you can!" to "oh shit this is way more expensive than the people and services we thought it was going to replace" speedrun in just a couple of months.
Their suggestion for reducing token use? "Ask Claude how you can use fewer tokens."
Corporate America is out of ideas, folks
And this is a Longshot.
Hey, this is a long shot, but does anybody seeing this know somebody who might have a copy of X-Assault, the old #XMen fangame in Flash? ETA the logo in case it jogs any memories.
It was ceased and desisted many years ago. It circulated rather defiantly for a while, but it seems to be #LostMedia to the public web now.
(Let me also tag #XAssault, in case anyone else ever searches it.)
I've been doing React.js for a living for 6 years now and I'm still not sure whether it's the best or worst code framework in existence.
Something-something-good-art-makes-you-feel-something, I guess...
So much anti-AI activism amounts to "sure it can do amazing things but at what human cost?!?" and I just cannot get through to people that it, critically, CAN'T DO JACKSHIT RIGHT. Stop ceding half the argument for no reason!
I'm staring at a list of tickets that all, each and every one, amount to "A customer asked our* AI chat bot to do something and it did something else" and I swear to god if I can't get a job that doesn't use LLMs soon I'm going to become like. Three The Jokers in a trenchcoat.
* I'm not at a company that makes an AI product, mind. We're just relaying shit to everyone's favorite $00,000,000,000 company. So not only is the answer "yeah they do that" I don't even have access.
To be clear merely *dissolving* ICE is the reserved moderate position. *Prosecuting* everyone involved in the agency is a likelier path back to a minimally healthy society.

Dispatches from a universe where programming is WAY more exciting.
Wow. Today the felon-in-chief tweeted that Canadians should vote for Pollievre *in order* to become the 51st state.
Like if you've only been coding for a few years you really have no idea how much commafucking nonsense has just STOPPED being our problem.
No joke, auto formatters and linters with --fix have done more for the software profession than any other development of the last fifteen years.
"Now, how can we say we're only providing and promoting non-police responders because of the stupid consent decree, without saying anything that violates the stupid consent decree?”
PostMan may be the most presumptuous piece of software this side of Windows 11. Why are you emailing me 8 times a day about reorganizing my workflow around your product? Your product is a visual curl frontend. It shouldn't even HAVE my email address.
There's a trans woman at this tech coworking space in SF wearing no-joke #ProgrammingSocks and it honestly makes me really happy for some reason to meet such an archetype.
I think it's because in our desire to fight harmful stereotypes, we make not fitting stereotypes into another site of self-policing / intracommunity judgement; and it's actually refreshing to see somebody visibly not playing that game. It's the only winning move.
@mattblaze I have a phone that can be dialed with punch cards, but nowadays if I show it to students they are more mystified by the fact that it can be dialed with, well, a dial.
Magneto's incomparable to the other three on the opposite end. He's not trying to make a better deal for a minority within a state he regards as... Not legitimate, but probably inevitable. He's a conqueror and a sovereign. He wants to put his people on TOP.
X, again, actually is a pretty good comparison to X. (See what the comics people did there?) Which means the only reason you'd compare him to Magneto instead is to call him a supervillain. Don't.... Don't fucking do that.
Dr. King is the only one of these people with both an ethical and tactical devotion to nonviolence. He's completely apples to oranges with the other three. His place in this comparison is only a way to call Xavier wishy-wash, which keep Dr. King's name out of your *fucking* mouth if you're going to use it that way.
Chuck runs a goddamn paramilitary
organization prepared to violently defend a downtrodden minority if their oppressors push too far, but expects it to be the last string to his bow, after parallel power and free schools. How are the X-Men and the Academy being CONTRASTED to the Panthers and their social programs? Those two are the only comparable real/fictional pairing.
It only makes sense as framed if you want to reduce the real leaders to "the weak one vs the evil one." Staaaahhhhhppppp.
