Question for people who do #embroidery

If someone wanted to get you an embroidery related gift, what would you want?

My bff is getting more & more into embroidery so I wanted to get her something related for Xmas*. I know nothing about it, though, so I don’t know what would be good.
Like something that isn’t part of the basic kit that she’ll already have, but would still be useful?

*I know, v early, but they’re coming to visit in a few weeks so I wanted to give them their gifts to take home

I only picked this pattern up as a way of using up a bit of Rowan Felted Tweed that I had left over. I’ll definitely be using it again though, I really like the pattern.

It’s simple enough to knit while watching tv, without the end product being boring

Related: what is your favourite method for blocking hats? I’ve seen balloons recommended but ideally I’d like to use something less disposable

I left the purposeless item laying on the edge of the sofa and Cooper claimed it. So now it has the highest purpose of all - providing added comfort for the beloved velvet house hippo

I’ve decided that, rather than being frustrated that I’ve wasted this yarn on an item that serves no purpose, I’m going to define its purpose as ‘giving me some time spent crafting’ and be glad of it. This is almost working. Almost.

My 4th item for the #FinishOrFrogAlong is a sort of finish/frog combo.

I’d started a scarf with this yarn & today I frogged that and attempted to make a lap blanket. Turns out there wasn’t enough yarn for that so I’ve ended up with a functionless square - I haven’t even bothered blocking it.

I’m not going to bother frogging it - this is my 3rd attempt at doing something with this yarn (it was given to me, I don’t generally work with bulky or super bulky yarn) and I give up!

I’m curious - #FinishOrFrogAlong folk is there a type of project (relevant to your craft) that you’ve never made and likely never will?

For me it’s gloves - I knit hand warmers and mittens on a fairly regular basis but never gloves. The prospect of fiddling about with 8 fingers, on top of the thumbs, gives me the nope. So no matter how lovely the pattern looks I never make them.

Second #FinishOrFrogAlong project finished.

Or at least I think it’s finished - I guess it depends on if the repairs I had to make to the steek hold

Hiya fellow crafters. I’m LemLems from the UK. Most of my crafting is #knitting although I sometimes dabble in #crochet and #TunisianCrochet

I’ve never taken part in a #FinishOrFrogAlong before - because #AuDHD and trying to willpower yourself into finishing a project are not often a great mix. But my WIP project bags have achieved critical mass and so I’m going to give it a go.

Just don’t be astonished if, in the end, you don’t see any actual finishing or frogging from me 😊

They’re nerd board games (as opposed to kid board games) and I’d like them to go to a non-profit/charity.

I can’t transport them so they’d need to go to an org in Greater Manchester (or willing and able to collect them from Greater Manchester)

I’ve always thought that himpathy (a disproportionate level of empathy for men) was due to men simply not being able to imagine themselves as women, while women have been trained their entire lives to put themselves in men’s shoes. I know lots of people are excited for GTA6 and I’m happy for them that it’s coming soon.

I just wish that the entire gaming industry wasn’t labouring under the impression that *everyone* who games is excited for GTA6.

It seems like every game that was due out this autumn (including ones that don’t seem like they’d appeal to the same audience) is busily moving its release date for fear of clashing with GTA6. And I kind of get it but it’s frustrating.

I’m looking to #Crochet a basic triangle shawl without a pattern for the first time.

I’m planning on using a variety of different stitches so my rows won’t be a uniform height and so now I can’t work out how I should space out my increases across the rows.

Can anyone out there advise me what to do please?

Do I need to drop the idea of having different stitch heights? Or is there some sort of formula to work out how to include them but still get a smooth shape?

I need an app designed for people who have zero knowledge, skill or talent for cooking (me, that people is me) - I want one that gives flavour balancing suggestions. Like I could select a couple of ingredients I have and the app would then suggest other ingredients that would go well with those flavours. And preferably let me favourite ingredients I love and exclude ones I hate (or can’t eat for medical reasons).

Is that a thing?

The Silver Reed 60-column/25-row knitting punch cards and my IBM-format 80-column/12-row punch cards from the CHM Archives. They're much larger and seem to be made in bulk, not with a keypunch.

Jenny also has a Silver Reed knitting machine that's programmable with punch cards! Just like the Jaquard looms and computers after them. Except she doesn't have a punch card reader—these cards just came with a component to demo it—and uses its software control.
