So, I should probably know this, but why do iPhone apps lose their state after a while? Even if they’re retired to save RAM, I’ve got plenty of storage space where they could keep track of what page I was on or what I was doing.

Thanks to her arthritis treatment, Pixel is back to being an adventure cat.

I don't own a car. I take public transit everywhere, and I do think personal vehicle use has real environmental costs. But I don't think driving is inherently unethical.
I live in Seoul, and the city makes transit easy for me. That's not a virtue. It's a condition I happen to benefit from. Some people live where transit barely exists, or where it doesn't get them to work, school, or care. In those places, driving is not optional.
The same is true of flying. In parts of Europe you can cross borders by train. In island nations, or in places with weak land connections, flying may be the only realistic option. “Just fly less” means very different things in those places.
A lot of what gets called my ethical choices comes from the conditions I live in. That makes me wary of turning structural failures into personal morality. If the alternative is missing or unusable, shaming people for not choosing it solves nothing.
When environmental harm gets framed as individual moral failure, attention shifts away from the structural changes that would actually matter. It's not an accident that oil companies spent decades popularizing the idea of the personal carbon footprint.

I suspect I am going to get a lot of use out of this new sticker design.
It is so funny how subreddits have a personality. Commenters on the subreddit for The Pitt are brutal to each other about details. Worse than Star Trek fans.
We only see one family worrying about how they’ll pay their hospital bill
My old humorous observation about how my jogging trail took me past two rifle ranges and a Superfund site is maybe not so funny now that I actually have cancer
Curious about some programming languages history: when/where did the idea of "Memory Safety" come from? Is there a good source that traces its development and formalization?
I understand that we literally grow flowers to be cut and trees to be harvested just like we do wheat or celery or a thousand other things, but the death of live Christmas trees still makes me sad.

I guess what I should research before I need it is a non-Google *nix phone and a combination of laptop-friendly Linux distro and repairable, Linux-compatible laptop
Internet morality question. Restating somebody else’s joke, but pithier. Aye or nay?
