Okay, you're skeptical of AI, but hear me out, what if we produce an entire generation of students who are *all* the ones who did nothing in the group project?

Does anyone know of some good resources of people who are calling BS on the AI bubble? I'm trying to get a proper convincing argument for someone I know who's fallen for it and would prefer for it not to rely on just one or two sources. So far I've got @pluralistic, where's your ed at, and @davidgerard on my mental list.

Google has introduced generative AI into Lens now and it's honestly kind of funny.

it's amazing how well #maga theories fit for a movement so unhinged. you can dismiss contradictory evidence, you can deny anything reported.

the movement is entirely truth-agnostic. the systems of confirmation work just as well--better, if anything--if the information is false.

there's always a way to keep your worldview intact, no matter the evidence presented.

it's honestly kinda impressive.

but also terrifying.

Dear G-d:

When I said that I wondered what watching a dictatorship form would be like, I didn't mean it *this* way!

This happened a few days ago where I live.
And honestly, it didn't even register as that unusual. Antisemitism is just insanely common. The weird thing is that it was bad enough the local rep, Summer Lee (who usually doesn't mention this stuff) mentioned it.

I wonder if you could figure out who the new pope was by finding people with a surge of new Wikipedia articles in different languages about them.

IMO the depressing thing is not that the mainstream media with its corporate owners hedges but that the little ones do too. Like Mother Jones writing a headline called "How RFK Jr. Falsely Denied His Connection to a Deadly Measles Outbreak in Samoa" (https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/07/how-rfk-jr-falsely-denied-his-connection-to-a-deadly-measles-outbreak-in-samoa/) instead of "RFK Jr Helped Kill Kids, Then Lied About It".
like if the liberal media with much less corporate funding is doing it, what hope does the mainstream media have?

I wonder when the media will realize that pleasing a dictator, especially one so erratic, is a fool's errand -- look at the "reciprocal tariffs". the option is either to forever chase an unattainable approval, or to say "fuck that" and do their goddamn jobs: journalism.

Not hedging about things, not with qualifiers, except for something like "Trump, convicted felon who [list of things]..."

Just actual journalism that pisses off the government, like it should.

dear trump,
19 percent of STEM workers are immigrants (https://web.archive.org/web/20250223051823/https://ncses.nsf.gov/pubs/nsb20245/foreign-born-stem-workers; archived link because I don't trust Trump).

Plan "induce a lot of scientists to flee" has been tried before.

Scientists fleeing Hitler -- among them Szilard, Wagner, Fermi (Jewish wife), Einstein, Rabi, and many, many, others -- came to the US and built the bomb.

Oh well. At least you're consistent in trying to redo the 1920s.

Dear World,

Sorry for what the country I unfortunately live in is doing.

Best of luck not becoming us and not bowing down to us.

trigger warning: bibas family

Curious about this, and, embarrassingly, this is as close to a general population as I can get. Please boost for reach.

With that said:
Have you heard of the Bibas family and what happened to them (before I asked this question)?

Shiri Bibas
Ariel Bibas
Kfir Bibas.

Say their names.

Scream them.

Scream them and scream who they were and what they could have been, should have been.

Say who butchered them, who returned them in those grotesquely antisemitic locked coffins. Who still will not give us Shiri. Who slaughtered a ten month old, too young to have teeth, a four year old, a loving mother.

Let their memory be for not only a blessing, but an awakening.
