I'M ALLOWED TO KILL YOU IF YOU BUY ONE OF THOSE FLYING TESLAS.

There's a new spam wave, messages with lots of names and a link. Here's what to do:

1. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IN THE SPAM
2. Click ⋯ on the spam post, then "report", and then follow the instructions. If you are given an option to forward the report anonymously, use it, because forwarded reports help cut off the spam at source.
3. Spam seems to be via account takeovers. To prevent this, use a unique password and consider using "two factor authentication" (more info at https://fedi.tips/using-two-factor-authentication-2fa-on-mastodon )

You'll be unsurprised Amazon is using an AI-related tool to assess its distribution sites for signs of nascent union activity...

Of course, Amazon denies the tool (Atlas) is being used to head-off unionisation efforts at specific warehouses, but then again they would say that, wouldn't they?

Their problem is the information has arisen during 'discovery' during a Court battle between Amazon & Canadian union; and as such, the source is the firm itself.

We found that Discover-Tech delivered ads via Google, Yandex and other ad vendors including Beeswax (Comcast), Vungle (Liftoff), Eskimi and Sunteng.

Discover-Tech was listed as a 'certified' and 'approved' ad vendor by Google and the advertising industry association IAB Europe from 2020 until Oct 2026.

The ad vendor registries maintained by Google and IAB Europe helped make Discover-Tech appear to be a legitimate vendor and facilitated its participation in the advertising ecosystem at scale.

At the core of our report is the Israeli firm Discover-Tech Ltd, which presents itself as a 'legitimate' advertising firm but which we found operated as a bridge between surveillance vendors and the digital advertising industry.

As a result of the investigation, Discover-Tech has now been widely disconnected from the ads ecosystem.

Discover-Tech, a company deeply embedded in the digital advertising ecosystem, weaponized ads to profile millions of people in many countries and to help infect 45+ devices within the news network Al Jazeera with Candiru spyware.

In this new @citizenlab report, we document the first public technical confirmation of a zero-click mercenary spyware attack delivered via targeted ads:

@wchr I worked in ad tech. To say it went "undetected" is incorrect: malicious ads & fraud were ok so long as they made money & no one important enough complained. One company I worked at made in the ballpark of 40% of their income off of fraud (refreshing ads in inactive tabs), though admittedly I was hired to reduce this (people important enough had complained). I can say with confidence through that the majority of ad impressions on the Internet are fraud.

Wait, no one said The Mighty Sparrow died?

I just realized that True Detective season 3 is based on the West Memphis 3 and I’m not sure I can watch this. That case is so painful to think about.

“These are systemic inequalities – problems so deep-rooted that, in fact, I’m glad that high-school students and young people in general are speaking up. I hear them, and I support them, and ‌I hope the people all over there will do the same.”

This happens: grifters build a copy of a book, slap a *40% OFF* medallion on the cover, then list it for sale under a name that looks like the author, but with a unicode homograph replacing a letter. This is close enough to show up in bookstore searches, so a bunch of readers get sucked in the 40% OFF label and give money to a crook.

As soon as my publisher tells Amazon or Apple or whoever they yank it off sale, but by then it's too late.

@D_J_Nathanson I do appreciate the companies that give you the option to be put on a silent hold.

💜 Plea for snacks & supplies for my special education classroom. This year seems even more dire for my kiddos, and we are going through everything faster than usual.

I am including my classroom wishlist link, but there are other ways to help listed in my bio...boosting helps too!

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.

Thank you 💜

Does anybody have direct experience with any FreeBSD desktop distros (list at https://freebsdfoundation.org/freebsd-project/resourcesold/guide-to-freebsd-desktop-distributions/)?

Asking for a union local that needs to deWindows a couple of laptops. I don't love the directions Linux is going, but these laptops have to serve novice-grade users.

Long shot but does anyone on here do cad cam scanning and machining of Micarta or G10? I want to have custom scales (handle pieces) made for a knife.
