Genuinely curious about this: are there smart TVs available that do not operate without being online? I’ve only had two over the years, and I have never connected them to our network. I just plug in an Apple TV and that’s it. Yet so many people complain about smart TVs. It makes me wonder if it’s even possible now to use them without being directly online.

Every time I visited the Condé Nast mothership at One World Trade, I took some time to look out of one of the 20th floor windows at this profoundly humbling sight.

“Never forget" has always sounded very angry, bitter, and vengeful to me. If anything, I prefer something that sounds more positive, kind, and even hopeful. Just use each word’s antonym and the phrase’s meaning changes very simply and beautifully.

Life Hack: If you’re looking for an easier and less time-consuming way to maintain your lawn, I strongly recommend that you stop caring. Well-groomed lawns are bullshit anyway. Every summer it’s the same thing now: mow the lawn once a month whether it needs it or not. Problem solved.

It begins. Early. #IKEA #SouthPhilly #Halloween

This is the way.

Waiting room TVs are an absolute plague.

Solid physics joke. Well, liquid really.

For years I have said (lamented, really) that I’m “literature illiterate”. I have read a decent number of books, but most have been non-fiction. As for the classics, I’ve only read a few, and only when assigned by my high school teachers.

Since I’m going to be taking a couple of long flights soon, I figured I’d start to remedy that while also giving my battery-operated devices a little rest. I picked this up today at this amazing little bookstore, “The Title Page”, in Bryn Mawr, PA.

I have a male relative who is less than two years older than me, and he always refers to women as “gals”. “One of the gals at work.” “A gal from the insurance company called.”

It’s always jarring to hear, but is it just because it’s an antiquated term, or is it also diminutive and at least marginally disrespectful?

Thoughts?

De-branding project #1 is finished! It was simple, quick, and super effective.

Moving on.

Found a great way to repurpose some old tech.

Just booked my donation at my school’s annual blood drive! Been too long.

OMG 🤘🤘🤘

Set up some sentries in front of the house.

It’s a county road, so they totally plow it. Makes it super tough to clear the apron of our driveway, but I’ll take that trade.

The first stereo I ever bought with my own money. My parents paid my brother and me to paint our house. Probably looked like garbage (knowing me), but we did it and I converted that labor into this. I even have some of the tapes I recorded on it! Can't play them, but it's the thought that counts.

Adjusted for inflation, that sucker sold for $1,057.21. Mine was on sale for $119, which when adjusted translates to $632.20. Still a princely sum!

The snow we got on Sunday/Monday was laminated by a layer of sleet and ice on top, making it break into small slabs when stepped on.

Some kids at my school knew exactly what to do with that material. Unsurprisingly, the second floor of the building in the background houses our art classrooms and studios.

Here in #NJ we got about 9” of snow with a top coat of ice. I love the undisturbed sheen it left in front of our garage.
