FINALLY! My husband found this and sent it to me today, reminding me that when we met at Clarion workshop 42 years ago, I was already incredulous that no one seemed to be working on this technology.

Nope, not great yet.

So, is everyone else off for the summer, too? I have been very busy vacationing (!not - family summer house, all repairs and no play, literally none) so haven't checked in here for about a month, and there's a serious dearth of new posts.

I mean, it just took this morning between the dogs' ungodly early pee-walks to catch up ... does one's feed wither from disuse? Do toots (I really can't stand that word, btw) evaporate if left unread for too long?

I (tacitly) left Facebook for Mastodon because...Well, it's Facebook. But also, since I'm not about to waste my time trying to convince MAGA trolls, it was just an echo chamber, good for support when you need it but bad for facing - or in any way affecting -our current dysfunctional reality.

Now, on Mastodon, I again find I'm mostly interacting with people who think as I do. For instance, @jonesmurphy, nothing you're saying is news to me. I think the sane assessment is that MAGA is an incurable (and maybe terminal) disorder, and it strikes me that the people who need to be swayed, moved, WOKEN THE F--K UP, are the well-meaning, hand-wringing, financially-ok people who hover between complacency and fear of dislodging the last wheel on the applecart.

They can't stay involved or watch what passes for news, and are just desperately hoping this all "blows over." There are SO many in my liberal suburban village - and we really need to find some way to motivate them before their refusal to take a stand lands us in the 4th Reich. How do we do that?

This is probably a terrible faux pas, and I don't mean to bother everyone, but I clearly still haven't got the hang of this place. Last week I asked: if my default is Quiet public and I have a pretty meager number of followers, then is it redundant - or incestuous, even obnoxious - for me to re-boost their boosted posts (toots?)?

Crickets.

After several months here I'm not sure anything I've tooted is even visible; I've yet to get a single answer or comment on anything that wasn't directly addressed to someone, or a response on another's toot. So I'm firing this at anyone I can think of in the moment... Thanks, sorry to be a noob noodge!

To all the pedestrian normies "out there" who dismiss traits like meticulousness and a desire for precision and symmetry as useless OCD manifestations: there's a whole lot of tech, scientific, engineering, medical research and actualization (and countless other disciplines) that rely on the sensibilities of people* who share those traits.

(Because I just noticed the bathroom faucet head has gone askew and heard that voice in my head belittling the impulse to straighten it)
