It's insane how the LLM fandom on Youtube want it to be over. All of it. It's like the title of half of their videos...

#llm

"Who could have predicted?" my ass.

I didn't catch this at the time but...

So Mistral, french tech company, publish an open llm model, ask the UE for lighter legislation for open model (with the intermediary or the french government). UE gave in, and weeks later Mistral sign a deal with fucking Microsoft?

Yeah that's what you get for indulging a money driven entity. They don't have any loyalty. Sorry but fuck you EU.

Just trying to not use LLMs is becoming fucking exhausting.

I don't mean using stuff where LLMs were never involved. I mean not using them first hand. Because every other big software, even open-source, is including it.

At least with the crypto stuff you could just ignore it.

So I fed some solutions into compiler explorer:

https://godbolt.org/z/fadsa9q8n

For reference this is what I'm trying to emulate from C++:

https://godbolt.org/z/hEEodGMWG

I think the "bar" version is the closest match.

Also it's worth pointing out that de C++ example only worst because the foo argument is const.

#rust #rustlang

I can't "respond to all" so I'm answering here.

So you gave me clean solution to do the same as my code, so thank you. All neat.

However is there a way to not clone the A passed in the option ?

It feels misleading to have a function take a reference and clone the data under the hood.

#rust #rustlang

Is there a better way to do this ?

fn toto(foo: Option<&A>) {
    let foo = if let Some(f) = foo {
        f.clone()
    } else {
        A::new()
    }
    // ... use foo somehow
}

I can't use unwrap_or since inside the Option is a reference.
I guess I could not copy the A if I set a replacement just in case but it still build an unnecessary A.

Maybe the problem is using a ref in an Option in the first place? But I would like to avoid copying A or moving it if possible.

He mastodon, what is your preferred "top" alternative on linux?

#linux

"Why do Senior C++ Engineers use size_t over int?"

Because they're too old to keep up with C++. They should be using iterators.

#Cpp

What do you use for algebra in rust ? I'm trying to use nalgebra but it's kinda of a pain...

(What do you mean I can't iter over columns and then collect the result ?)

#rust #rustlang

If your telling me in your video that you used an IA to write the script, I'll stop the video and blacklist you.

At least be ashamed.

#LLM #IA

Or maybe implementing a Trait for a trait...

This would probably be a derive macro isn't it ?

Est-ce qu'en rust on peut définir un trait qui implique d'autres traits ?

genre quelque chose comme

trait A {
 ...
} // ou implementer A demande aussi d'implémenter Copy par exemple

#rust #rustlang

I'm wondering because I'm watching a poison only chalenge run video and...

the guy is using weapons... with poison build up sure, but... this is still a kinda normal melee run.

And on one side, it would feel weird not to make use of weapon with status effect, and you probably would have to not use half the spells and ashes which does poison if you go that road.

On the other side... The poison isn't doing most of the damage here. So it's a stretch to call this a poison only run.

I still haven't finished the game mind you...

Also I already have all the character I can have. (Probably this is part of the reason I haven't finished the game yet... )

I wonder if you could make a weapon in Elden Ring which only deals status effect.

I expect you can have a very weak weapon but no-damage, only status?

You would want a fast weapon for that obviously.

You can use spells and ashes of war, but a weapon has the advantage of not requiring mana.

#EldenRing

#cpp

Does this makes sens to you ?

Class A {
   ...
private:
   static void doStuff(...);
}

I mean... I guess friend class and derived class can use this, but in the case where A doesn't have friends or derived class ?

I'm just wondering.
