I am shocked, shocked, that no one has made fan art where they’ve replaced all the horses in Lord of the Rings with arachnids and called it the Spiders of Rohan.

#spider mention.

The relative scales of things.

I step away from the Internets for a couple of hours and suddenly it’s Demon Core this and Demon Core that. Did I miss something?
#demonCore.

My #rockclimbing days are in the past, but how can I not get excited about huge expanses of vertical #alpine granite like this?

There are some people visible on the summit if you look carefully which gives you the sense of scale. That’s a big rock!

Another sleepless hour or two got me past pragmatism and across a threshold of self-honesty I'd been working up to all night. The thought of four more footsore days lumping through the mountains and three more nights of lonely dinners hunched over a microscopic flame with nothing to do besides sleep or hike just didn’t fill me with joy. In my heart of hearts, I just didn't want what I'd gotten.

Puffins!
I often wonder why I bother lugging the big camera around when iPhones are so damn good these days. Then I get a shot like this. #puffins #Iceland #birdphotography

#Iceland day 3. 🇮🇸. Lots of driving and lots of rain. Black sand and columnar basalt beaches, more waterfalls, anxiety over running out of gas, up close and personal with bazillions of puffins, and the northernmost southernmost point in the world.

I tend to be the least squee person in any given room but OMG!!! PUFFINS!!! They are utterly charming.

#Introduction time! I spend my time #trailrunning and #skiing in #Colorado. My day job is inventing new #remotesensing technologies to let us see new and interesting things with satellite images. I used to be a professional #Astronomy researcher and #teacher before I got tired of the whole #academic thing. Sometimes I ride bikes or take pictures of #birds and stuff. Occasionally I brew halfway decent #beer.

So anyway, that's me.
