Yeah pretty much true

Hey, @EUCommission, fuck you too.

On Wednesday, EU Member States approved a change to the GDPR that would put the profit-making interests of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and SpaceX over European's fundamental right to data protection. According to the approved text, processing personal data “in the context of AI” should automatically be lawful. In particular, Big Tech would be able to use all personal data collected over the past decades with virtually no restrictions, as long as this happens “in the context” of AI. Schrems: “Under the agreed text, the profits of AI companies would typically trump European’s fundamental right to privacy. This is nothing but a digital expropriation of Europeans.”

Report: Palantir Targets UK MPs With ‘Intimidating’ Letters

"British MPs who criticised Palantir in parliament received 'intimidating' letters from the US spytech firm".

Eg, Palantir warned Clive Lewis that it "was surveilling his activities relating to Palantir last month", a letter that Lewis described as “very Big Brother” & an “implicit threat”.

Las Alegres Ambulancias – La Cosita

https://amf.didiermary.fr/las-alegres-ambulancias-la-cosita/

Afro-Colombian band from Palenque de San Basilio, Colombia, considered the first freed village in the Americas, Las Alegres Ambulancias, the “Jolly Ambulances,” are the Palenque mourners and legendary rum drinkers who sing at funeral wakes and honour the memory of our ancestors. Without them, there can be no proper funeral in Palenque. […]

Given two distinct points A and B in the hyperbolic plane, there are always two horocycles that contain both A and B.

A horocyle is a curve of constant geodesic curvature κ=1.

In the Poincaré disk model of the hyperbolic plane, a horocycle is represented by a circle that is tangent to the boundary of the disk (aka the circle of infinitely distant “ideal points”).

In the hyperboloid model of the hyperbolic plane, a horocycle is the intersection of the hyperboloid –t^2 + x^2 + y^2 = –1 in (2+1)-dimensional Minkowski spacetime and a plane with a null (aka “lightlike”) normal vector.

What is the area of the region bounded by the two horocycles that pass through two given points? This should only depend on the distance between the points, δ. The computations I performed in both the Poincaré disk model and the hyperboloid model give the same answer:

A(δ) = 4 sinh(δ/2) – 8 atan(tanh(δ/4))

That these two calculations agreed makes me fairly confident that this formula is correct ... but frustratingly I can’t locate anything on the web that says anything about this area.

I can’t believe this simple result isn’t stated *anywhere* on the internet. Even if the formula I’m claiming is wrong, whatever the correct result is, someone like Nikolai Lobachevsky or Eugenio Beltrami surely figured it out in the 19th century, so it must be mentioned somewhere.

So I’m wondering if anyone is aware of a reliable reference on hyperbolic geometry that gives a formula for the area between the two horocycles that contain two given points.

Me:...White folks and POC with respectability politics defanged BLM.

Rando in my mentions: just say 'some people'.

Me: No.
---

I like clarity in writing.

So I will give Rando some grace and bring MOAR clarity to what I thought was already explicit:
White liberals, white mods and conservatives, and POC who think there is safety in being white-adjacent, were not only resistant to the goal of defunding the police they were openly hostile to it, giving explicit approval to policies that allowed police departments to further militarize and attack our communities.

There. Clarity.

'Some people' lets folks off the hook for this current moment and folks can fuck that right in the ear.
