https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/10/xbox-wants-you-to-pay-24-to-40-cents-per-hour-to-stream-games-you-already-bought/ Good news everyone, Microsoft is planning to bring the arcade to the home! No, not by reviving classics or opening brick and mortar gaming centers, but by charging per minute of gameplay. Guess the next XBox is going to come with a coin slot.
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/10/ai-game-clones-are-making-indie-developers-afraid-to-show-their-work/ ...But it's good slop bros cloned Photoshop, right? They surely wouldn't turn their sights on indie studios and bury anything with any buzz beneath a torrent of clones, would they? Oh right.
They do not care about art.
They do not care about the people who make it.
They do not care about the audience.
They do not care about 'democratising' anything.
They want to install themselves as a tollbooth where money flows to them when they contribute nothing, that is it. They have harmed art, music, journalism and open source projects, now the time has come to destroy indie gaming, all the while pretending that this is beneficial somehow.
https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/y-combinator-outlit-customer-surveillance Oh goodie, an AI startup pushing surveillance as a method of customer retention, just what the current hellscape needs. It's the same damaged mindset that considers stalking to be a method of partner retention.
I there any wonder I keep suggesting people cover their drinks should they meet an AI bro in the wild while socialising?

Every one of them bent the knee to Trump so cannot be trusted any more than American government entities would trust Chinese owned companies.
https://blog.character.ai/an-update-on-character-ai/ Oh hey, that AI company that preys on kids that is currentky being sued into oblivion has filed for bankruptcy... No, not Open AI, yet, but it's a start.
Dennis Hastert is dead. I remember being horrified when I heard that during the Bush admin that a pedophile monster was third in line to being in control of a superpower... Good job America learned from that mistake, huh?
Rest in piss.

Sam Altman: “we believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency.”
Which people? Not the artists, writers, coders and musicians whose work was plundered, nor the people in poor communities who have data centers forced upon them by politicians who don't shave to deal with the noise, pollution and resource drain. Not the people whose retirement funds bought in to SpaceXAi by default so now have to pray the bubble doesn't burst too violently, nor the people faced with not getting to retire as AI is denying them medical care. Not the graduates being denied the first step on the ladder because employers hope AI will do all their jobs, nor the veteran employees who are pushed out for saying 'no it can't'. Not the civilians in Palestine, Iran and Lebanon getting bombed into oblivion because AI now gives them a new excuse for targeting civilians, nor the billions of people now being tracked for having the wrong political beliefs or skin colour. Not the people struggling to make ends meet as corporations use AI to fix prices of everything from food to housing, and the people whose existence is now threatened because AI companies are pouring money into the campaign's of absolute nightmare creatures in order to block anyone fixing the problems they create...
The only people he wants to have agency is people like him, his public statements and his personal life show he cares nothing about consent on any level, none of them do, and the benefits will always be coming ten years down the road, much like Trumpism and Brexit. This is a deeply selfish man representing an industry of nothing but pure, distilled greed, seeing people getting angrier and angrier at him, hoping that he can quell that anger long enough he can take over government policy on his field entirely, cash out, or both.
Whenever a new sillicon valley start up hires an ethics board, be afraid. If Facebook and AI companies are anythin to go by, they'll use their recommendations as a to-do list, where every don't is a do.
After Canada, the UK and now Germany, will people start accepting that neoliberal 'centrist' leaders are not going to save anyone from fascism? You're giving people a choice between someone who wants to make the world worse through austerity, attacks on the poor and privatisation and someone who wants to make the world worse through austerity, attacks on the poor and privatisation, but with fingers pointed at immigrants for all of it then acting shocked people you need to vote just don't.
We don't need any more 'leaders' who do little more than follow the sound of goose-stepping and burning migrant housing, saying they may have a point.
Don't be alarmed, folks: the least ethical company in the least ethical industry since the commercialisation of TetraEthyl Lead, the one using the cultist thing now has a biolab. I'm sure this will end fiiiiiiine.
If you got rid of AI tomorrow, the internet would keep on working, hardworking folks in tech would quickly plug the holes and broken buttons on corporate websites and everything would roll on. If you got rid of LGBTQ+ people, the internet would stop, a large chunk of the quiet, competent people who keeps things working and have the knowhow needed to patch up any cracks in the walls would stop doing so and things would rapidly fall apart... So naturally on is deemed essential because it will never say no, while the other has the machinery of government weaponised against it, with only brief periods of respite.
'At Microsoft AI, we begin with a simple premise: people matter more than AI. Technology’s purpose is to advance human civilization and to accelerate human flourishing.'
Posted after how many rounds of mass layoffs directly tied to the spending on AI? I'm sure all the Devs at the studios bought by Xbox that were just fired because of unrealistic profit goals set by the people in charge at Microsoft to try and offset the AI money pit sure feel like AI is working to help them flourish.
https://microsoft.ai/code-of-conduct/ Good news everyone. Microsoft have hopped on the 'we're totes ethical about AI guys!' bandwagon and have issued a code of conduct that isn't legally binding in any way and has all the same legal weight as Google's 'Don't be evil' motto.

Never should have given me the sword of Omens.

I need to re-do an intro post? Alrighty then! I'm Rycochet, I'm a squirrel person, he/him, I like music, robot toys, retro tech and snarking a whole bunch. I'm an occasional artist, ukulele mangler, coffee drinker and Brit. I like to reply to people and I make no apology for that, it feels like a more worthwhile response to an interesting toot than a like, and it helps meet new people and make them feel like they're not shouting into the void.
