I'm deliberately playing with keyboard, not controller. In my experience it's rare that anything that says "plays better with controller" actually does. I found the first game easier to get the jumps precise with keyboard, at any rate.
Anyway, stuck on a boss, and I keep thinking maybe I ought to try controller, but then I remember that it's still pretty arbitrary that you have to press a key+direction to use your tools, and I'd have to get that button/key into muscle memory anyway. And I'd lose the muscle memory of space for jump and shift for dash.
Also really having difficulty on the fights where you need to concentrate on more than one thing at a time.
Oh well, it'll come. Onward and upward.
Also, Silksong is delightful. Just about exactly what I wanted.
I love how the pogo is Hornet's signature diving attack from the first game. As well as being a callback, it's fresh gameplay. Genius! You don't really do a lot of damage (really holding out for a nail upgrade 😅) but the movement tools are phenomenal. And I haven't even got the muscle memory down yet.
I also appreciate that it doesn't hold your hand, or tone down the difficulty. It's pretty clear the expectation is that you've played the first game, and then this is More Hollow Knight, and builds on the first game. Enemy movement is much more complex, right from the get-go.
And really, if you haven't played the first game, then go play the first game, it's also delightful.
