The ignition cylinder on my VW GTI has failed/is failing. Since it's a 15 year-old car, I'm going to try to fix it myself.

While at the annual conference, I learned that my professional organization has an Insta account, Facebook, bluesky, and LinkedIn, but no Fediverse presence. So, I volunteered to set up an org mastodon account.
But when it's a prof org, selecting a server becomes more fraught. Are their moderation policies compatible? Is it stable, with a track record?
The more I looked at it, the more it felt like we should have our own server. The org account would be there, but we could also allow org members (and only org members) to join.
Now it's a Big Project. And while it has great potential, I don't know if I can take it all on.

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda depressed at how many of the sponsors for the NAPP annual meeting are startups pushing AI tools for patent drafting.
I wonder how many of my colleagues have jumped onto this toxic bandwagon.
