Today we are opening our new large-scale neon LED installation «HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf». The work is produced by invitation from the City of Zurich's public art programme (KiÖR). From tonight it lights up the façade of the Energiezentrale Josefstrasse in Zurich throughout the coming winter.

The work is prompted by Zurich's claim to be the "Silicon Valley of Europe" and takes its cue from a declassified manual for simple sabotage from the Second World War. The 1944 Simple Sabotage Field Manual contains instructions on how to slow down work under fascist occupation. It became one of the most downloaded PDFs amongst staff in the first days after Donald Trump's inauguration in 2025.

HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf is placed strategically along the railway line into the city, as an instructional invitation aimed at the city's tech workers and commuters. It is an intervention in public space that confronts the logic of working under digital systems of control with a series of instructions calling for slowness, detours, inefficiency and refusal.

HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf transforms the façade of the Energiezentrale Josefstrasse and you may also come across the instructions on the rear of city buses, as stickers and as virtual backgrounds on video calls, extending the intervention into public space and everyday working life.
