I'm reading a wikipedia article about peregrine falcons, and how they hunt pretty much anything that moves (preference for flying, but young foxes and salmon are on menu as well), and my first thought is: "sky cats"

Music I listen to is loud and angry so that I can be otherwise.

Scientists placed 42 sea sponges in a polluted Spanish port. 455 days later, one species had thrived while four others died

> Researchers in Spain spent 455 days tracking how sponges from five species of Mediterranean sea life coped with being moved from clean, natural habitats toward a heavily polluted recreational marina near Girona.

Let this be a lesson to misinformation scholarship on the conceptual limitations of their frameworks. Here we see actual "bias" at work, but a more complex version outside the simple left/right they love to use, and which mostly concerns individual interests.

New pre-print: Stop using Media Bias/Fact Check in research.

https://theluddite.org/post/stop-using-mbfc.html

This project began as a post about a year ago, in which we followed the provenance of the data from a study about misinformation until, at the bottom, we found Media Bias/Fact Check. Upon further examination, it turned out that Media Bias/Fact Check is just some guy quantifying the vibes, and upon him, totally unwittingly, there rests a surprising amount of academic research.

Friend is looking for somewhere they could pay for hosting and maintaining some services for them. "Google Docs", "Google Drive", wiki, some "Jira" (project tracking), email would be nice. "Some family and friends" usage type.
Option of "move to my hardware, you still maintain it" preferred.
Co-op or such preferred.
EU strongly preferred, except FR and UK (they like to flex against people keeping secrets from them).
Any suggestions?

Sigh, https://asta.boserup.eu/forest/kompromat/ shows that #Borg #borgbackup is now #slop, and in quite core parts of it. Looks like it's time to change how I'm doing #backup ....

"Make a draft through your apartment to reduce temperature".
Unfortunately said draft includes neighbour smoking cigarette on balcony approximately every hour throughout most of day and night.
"Just close window when smoke comes" - you just relegated me to guard duty by the window, including during the night, when temperatures are lowest, but ideally I'd be sleeping.
"It's not legal" it is, as long as cigarette butts are not thrown out the window.
Sigh.

Let's see how much emergency blankets on windows in the hottest room help today.

Damn it.
Fun song, but bad sound quality.
Check my settings, yeah, not set to highest, switch.
Still sounds flat?
Look at discography.
That's suspiciously many tracks for all of them to be from this year...
Check YT, description: "all visuals and sounds generated by AI"
🤦🤬😭

But also, the sound quality was my only indication, I would have enjoyed it otherwise....

Someone mention to me somewhere a concept of blog (I think?) that is by default private, and you need to give explicit permission for others to access, with everyone getting a unique link. There may have been encryption involved? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

How do you deal with #biking when air quality is bad, versus hydration? Simple answer is "wear a mask", but then instead of sipping from bottle as you ride, you need to stop, take everything off (possibly including helmet), then gear back up before continuing. "Don't bother with a mask" is also an option that exists, but, well. Anyone has any advice?

Out of the #IdM / #SSO solutions I can #SelfHost that I remembered about, apparently only #KaniDM has ability to create app passwords / bearer tokens that actually allow to access only a single application 🤔

I probably will try to explain more later, and add alt text, but for now, this is the wonders of open source diabetes automation. I've told the system my guess of the carbs I had. I added some insulin, but not nearly enough. I did some random guess of "there were fats and proteins, a bunch, pretend they're this many carbs over this period".
And that was the extent of my thinking, and interactions with it. And it kept me *well* within range.

Someone at work triggered a #COVID conversation. During which I had one person notice that indeed they're talking about it in past tense while they shouldn't, and that they'll do better going forward; and another say the usual "but the pandemic has been declared over", and linked the WHO announcement - which after being told to re-read it while paying attention to wording and what it does and doesn't say, they realised and admitted that indeed the end of the pandemic has NOT been declared.

Went to cinema today, early showing, mostly empty room (5 people?). CO2 reader not well calibrated, and in backpack, but the values seem... decent. I may dare to do it again.

@homelab so far mentioned:
- woodpecker
- flux 🤖
- tekton 🤖
- ArgoCD 🤖
- dagger 🤖
- JenkinsX / JayeX / jx (there's also mentions of tekton? can they make up their mind?)

The last is too confusing when I try to figure out what it is and where it comes from, 🤖 I'd rather not, which seems to leave Woodpecker as strongest candidate.

Thank you for the answers! I'm still open to more if anyone feels like it ;)

What's a good CI/CD to #SelfHost for small #HomeLab #kubernetes ? Build custom images, update deployments with newer images as upstream publishes them, other "usual" tasks.
