'Strategic threat': Israel faces healthcare brain drain as 1,369 doctors leave in three years
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/strategic-threat-israel-faces-healthcare-brain-drain-1369-doctors-leave-three-years
Landlord of neighbours guy, who likes to run his van’s diesel engine on his driveway for half an hour for *no fkn reason*, is busy hosing his driveway *in the rain*
…I fkn hate what cars have done to us. And EVs fix none of that.
Shiny metal boxes will drive us off the cliff
…Along the way, I had the temerity to carefully pull out to go past traffic slowing to become stationary in front of me. As I did so the guy in the car behind me revved his engine in disapproval or trying to scare me.
He wasn’t coming alongside me, he was behind me and had nowhere to go.
And earlier a driver had decided the advanced green light for cyclists was a green light for him and just drove straight through a red light.
But it’s always the cyclists’ fault :/
…People are clueless. I don’t know what we do about that
Up until about 9 years ago I was regularly cycling in rush hour traffic several times a week.
I hardly ever do so now but did today, along what has been one of Portsmouth’s most congested roads.
Nearly a decade on, and with well over 300,000,000,000 more tonnes of CO2 in the air, it still is as congested as it ever has been.
*Nothing* has changed.

.@imanijoy just want to say thanks for you and your colleagues’ work on https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/10/5.0-a-closer-look/
Lots to explore :)
@GossiTheDog
They prompted it wrong? :thonking:
…The Venn diagram of Mastodon and @elk aesthetics is now close to a circle
…it still has to be worth a try as the best option in a mixed bag of delusionists?
…The thing about the green ‘business as usual, kinda’ party – the one I’ve most affinity for – is that it’s now a green room jostling with:
- Green growthers who want to be in government (business as usual, kinda)
- Social justice campaigners disinterested in being electable (fk business as usual but also my issue is the thing that matters)
- Degrowthers (business as usual is a dead end, perhaps this is a vehicle for some traction).
I’m in the last camp but have low expectations. However…
This is a good initiative. Cheers @Mastodon 👏
I would like for just one mainstream broadcast journalist who is genned up on the Earth crisis to press a prominent government minister on how distant their policy positions are from safety and material reality.
To do this calmly and coherently and assertively.
More than one journalist, more than once, to more than one government minister would be great.
But let’s start with one. I’ve been waiting a long time for just one
We can vote for, or defend our vote for, the red, yellow or blue ‘business as usual’ party.
Or for the cyan ‘business as usual but only for man-babies’ party.
Or for the green ‘we still have to sound like business as usual’ party.
Them’s your choices https://mastodon.social/@ReggieHere/117472881402676690
@ReggieHere @TCatInReality There's the problem of tech levels. With the human population being what it is, and our life expectations being what they are, it will be difficult to keep all the stuff going that keeps everybody alive. We've made it extra hard by painting ourselves into a corner with technologies that are so specialised to manufacture, even a slight disturbance to the status quo is likely to render them unavailable.
People need to choose a side. If this ends without banks and the IMF being burned to the ground and the entire financial system being torn to pieces and rebuilt along human lines then the same rent-seeking class will build it up again like they did in the 80s.
There needs to be nothing left to rebuild.
Alternate headline:
"Chancellor vows to continue lower tax rate for the wealthy than for workers."
So, the UK will continue to charge lower CGT rates because we can't possibly ask the wealthy to pay the same rate as workers.
And that's just gains. It doesn't touch the piles of hidden wealth. SMH
