On my way to Dublin for next week’s @w3c TPAC! #TPAC2026

📢 Web developers, I need your help!

I've made a very short survey, literally just one question, about how you interpret "Fully supported" or the tick in the support tables on MDN. Please take a minute to answer the question:

The FOSDEM organising team has rejected a proposal for a DEI room at FOSDEM 2027.

I am proposing the FOSDEM Pledge to make up for it.

Will you take the pledge?

In honor of #FOSDEM rejecting our Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB) track, and time permitting, I will be posting numbers about diversity in tech and my personal experiences in IT today.

Feel encouraged to share numbers and experiences as well ❤️

My company just made a sizable contribution to @lolaodelola’s Accessible Compat Data project. I think a project of this complexity needs to be well-funded and as the big companies don’t care about accessibility enough, this is up to us.

I call on all accessibility companies to help fund this research and data project.

See @eric’s article why this is so important: https://ericwbailey.website/published/the-accessibility-compat-data-project-has-a-homepage-now-and-you-should-support-the-project/

New Mastodon UI? How long have I been asleep?

"We’re on a roll - EPUB 3.4 is coming" by @reidmore on the W3C blog

Wendy noted: "The Publishing Maintenance Working Group at W3C has been quietly working on yet another update for the EPUB3 standard, and we're excited to share what we have been up to. Our goal is to not only maintain the EPUB standard, but do our best to keep it in line with the needs of industry, and this update does exactly that."

OSI approved the #curl license

https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2026/10/15/osi-approved-the-curl-license/

Today, millions of Americans hit the streets for the BIGGEST early vote activation in US history! Next, we're going to make sure every vote is counted, the election results are certified, and the winners are seated in January. Join our mass call to learn more: bit.ly/whatsnext1021.

A Saturday email that makes my chores easier. I want to extend this to my fellow maintainers in these testing times; I'm not doing curl by myself.

Hi Daniel,

With all the nonsense going on related to AI slop bug reporting and PRs, just looking in from the outside is exhausting, I imagine it must be even worse for you and the other contributors. I wanted to say thank you for all the time and energy you put into cURL, the tool really is a joy to use and never lets me down.

Y’all! Please, please, please use appropriate passwords. We’re seeing a big spam campaign across the fediverse, using hacked accounts.

First, change your fediverse password. Especially if it’s reused elsewhere, short/weak, or really old.

Then, here are some simple steps to protect you and your accounts:

1. Never reuse passwords. Use a password manager so you’ll only have to remember one password.

2. Make sure your passwords are secure. They should be 12+ characters with at least one capital letter and one special character. Good password managers have a generator built-in.

3. Set-up multi-factor authentication (MFA/2FA).

4. Use passkeys wherever possible.

If you need help, ask someone. Folks who know will help.

Have you been making websites for years? How are you feeling about the current state of things?
