I can now say without a doubt, at least at my extremely large workplace, that use of GenAI in coding is largely held up by three types of people:
- those who are feel like they have to and are afraid to say No
- those don’t want to work or think or are just emotionally exhausted people who finally have an excuse to relax
- the cultists
Whether they’re managers or ICs, I haven’t seen anyone outside of those three buckets yet. The ironic thing is that the first two groups still outweigh the latter. What a bizarrely asymmetric situation.

My god. This is not from a man. This is from a child.
I think Sam Altman can and will also accept some bad things happening, yeah? How about Chapter 7?

Hey #z80 nerds: was there ever some (undocumented?) way to disable the dram refresh on the Z80? Or were there ever any variants that did or dropped it entirely?
I finally went full gamergirl and got an EGG OP1 8k v2. I was worried about it being too small, too light, wrong shape, etc.
It is slightly more narrow and shockingly light, but as it turns out, both of those things are really good for me. Back and forward buttons, strong scroll wheel detents. Feather light cable. Glides wonderfully on a desk mat. I'm quite happy with it.
Snuggle up, Ultima Online fans. Four hours.
KDE seem to be confused about the difference between apology and apologia. They do sound similar, to be fair

There! There it is! It's not difficult to understand or express. This article literally spells it out. Just do this and the right people will be happy.
I know this is a bit mean but I knew immediately that Ed Sheeran was a plastic bag of a man and I've never heard him or watched him move. Sorry!
Hey um. Just wondering. Why the fuck is Bernie Sanders sharing a podium with known evil, demonic being, Steve Bannon?
Thinking about how GenAI uses insane amounts of resources, bring servers down, and have made the economic situation worse for people who want computer components, I want to attempt wording a principle of efficiency that covers this well but am having trouble phrasing it how I want.
I would say that a system should use resources proportional to their benefit, but that seems to not be quite enough, as people value things differently. However, I think the concept of depriving people of other benefits is pretty clear.
Is it enough to say that a system should use resources proportional to their universal benefit, without depriving other systems to provide their benefits.
Are there exceptions to this?
Principle of User Attention

Principle: Device Ownership
> A user shall have the unhindered ability to completely understand, alter, repair, destroy, or trade their device.

Principles will take the following form:
- Declaration: A single sentence declaring an aspect, ability, right, or responsibility.
- Refinements: Descriptive sentences elaborating the declaration, necessary but not sufficient conditions to satisfy the declaration.
- Discussion: History, positive and negative examples
Hey @glyph
I'm going to be working on something like an Elements of Good Tech, which includes minimum requirements for a device, piece of software, or system to be considered good (as in not evil), and a list of personal responsibilities and universal principles that someone can promise to uphold, where you can actually check signatures (using public keys?). I think it is well past due. I'd like to work on this in an open source way. Anyone interested?

Can anyone make this make sense? Why is this happening? I really don't get it.

LLMs aren't technology. You know what is? Hydrocolloid dressings. Now that's a technology.
