Dear fedi people, maybe it’s the heat or the stress or Slop or the world itself, but the timeline is transforming into a twitter/X/F(ck)B like social meltdown, that is disproportionally negative and depressing. The planet still turns round.

Bad news and indignation and awareness to madness happening in the world are legitimate. But it’s okay to take a breath and think of the positive things around us, once we take our noses off the screens. The internet feeds on our despair at a time where we just need memes and some silly thoughts.

The slop, and gigallionaires and media can wait. They don’t deserve your immediate attention. They don’t deserve our permanent and continuous anger. Those who can’t rest can’t fight (and life shouldn’t be a permanent fight).

Spend some time with your loved ones, have sex, hug a tree, make music, invite your neighbour for an aperitivo, cook a meal… Read a book that has no triggers in it, or a dozen. It’s hard at first but worth it. Or chill for 1 hour.

Worst case scenario, if you really feel bad, find an old computer and set up a fresh Debian install. It will be a breeze and an opportunity to re-enjoy the wonders of compute. All problems will one “sudo apt” away from being solved.

If you play life in hard mode set up a BSD or Arch box… or build your own OS (depends on your orientations). The most important point is enjoying yourself… at the speed of your processor (if you are into this kind of shit).

I found the picture below. I can’t go to the beach everyday. But it’s fine.

Call for graphic artists, comics drawers and designers: At work we manage a small clothing brand where we can print and produce t-shirts, hoodies and accessories for a marginal price.

Our focus so far was to set up the shop in a robust way, find the best suppliers available and guarantee a top notch supply chain from print to delivery (to your door), while solely relying on Print On Demand to avoid having waste products nor storage costs.

So far we’ve managed to deliver on all these points + worked with great but very few (4/5) artists and designers to bring to life some comics characters, and curate the designs to a T. Our first collab artists were from places as far away as Australia or Latin America.

There is no specific theme, but for our previous releases we did get inspired by technology, cyberspace, or mythology and handmade techniques. We also work closely with electronic music artists and creative people from the music scene.

Now we can and will focus on design, and I’d love to collaborate with fedi artists, as there are plenty of talented people around here.

If you have some cool artowrks that you would like to see printed in high quality garments, get in touch…

What are you people reading these days? I just finished “Zero Zero Zero” by Saviano, and now I can hardly walk 30 meters without thinking that I am surrounded by narcos, and international organized crime… A trip from Italy to Russia via Mexico and Turkey.

It also portrays adequately the complicated Italian modern history, and his love for Napoli is simply present.

It’s not as bad as it sounds, but given my location, some communities are as if they are the cliché that the book mentioned.

Is Fedi gangsta yet?

Hi Fedi, is there a reliable GUI for ssh sessions out there that you can recommend?

So far I’ve mostly relied on password managers to keep documentation and related secrets in one place. Maybe something else exists.

I’m s there a reference book for software testing out there? I’m familiar with basics using Rust and a bit of cpp (didn’t study CS at uni). Any recommendation will be much appreciated.

Good morning internet.

Just in: computers made snail mail (letters) obsolete somewhere. And it’s in Denmark.

If we consider 1965 as the year that electronic mail started to take its actual shape and fulfill its function… Then it’s roughly a 60 years cycle between the time the technology is out, and the time it replaces its direct legacy predecessor system.

Here I speak purely in terms of core function, regardless of size or capex… And no allusion whatsoever to hubris and new born technologies that have been force fed to the public by barely-adult post-teenagers, without the slightest idea of real world innovation cycles, and an infinite appetite for endless cash, or else we are doomed to live in the stone age of the pre-smartphone era.

Mind you, email is a very well understood and robust stack that predates the modern internet to some extent, and the web by a large margin.

Hats off to the Danish postal services, for what I imagine being 4 centuries of efficiency.

Found this interesting game after it was lost:

Attention All Units!

We start the week with Modern Talking's "You're my heart, You're my Soul": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kHl4FoK1Ys

Being bald in the 80s was not an option. It was either full length or a thick touffe on the top. Nothing less.

Have a great start of the week.

There seems to be a phishing attack that impersonates ycombinator, and is sent via Github tickets. It was sitting in my inbox this morning.

At a first glance, it looks like YC is reaching out to open source contributors, at least from their messaging.

But soon enough the oddities pile up: The amount suggested is not what YC usually invests. Their instructions indicate that a "wallet" must be verified via a reimbursable transfer.

Finally none of the links is legit. The one visible in the picture below is sent by "ycoombinator". Another apply link (not visible in screenshot) points to: "https://y-comblnator [dot] com/apply".

Tonight I am posting my latest and own mixtape: https://sntx-2050.bandcamp.com/album/quatrain-5

Because someone said it’s actually not bad, and it wasn’t an imaginary person.

Succesfully migrated from mastodon.social to BSD.cafe. So far so good. Not even over-caffeinated.
