I'm exploring adding some new features to forgejo! Let's see how this goes. Quite liking their architecture btw, a much better design, visible improvement compared to Gitlab.

I have been thinking lately that GitHub never really reached its full potential. Maybe that was what made it remain so consistently successful but the reality is GitHub practically only launched one meaningful new feature since its inception, Actions. Since ~2011 GitHub has been growing and growing without any new innovation. It's pretty amazing. They didn't do anything new, just kept the lights on and a handful of redesigns. Now they can't even keep the lights on and that's what makes people leave.

the power of AI!

I always thought my experience of university professors having little understanding of the domain they teach was because I went to a bad university but apparently Gary who went to LSE and Oxford says:

"what I saw in academia I cannot describe to you how dreadfully bad it was"

"it is possible to learn about a thing by doing the thing" -- my favourite line that someone who is not me (!) said today in an argument against university degrees certifying knowledge

Great article about starting a bookstore! One more reason to start one. They decided to start the bookshop in 2019 and they still started! Fascinating.

I think a good SMTP service is missing in general, not just europe. postmarkapp.com used to be amazing before getting bought out. it's still great but the monthly cost for my usecase went up 10x

we presumably have full text search in this server now!
