I am afraid my stuffed dinosaur will eat us all. He must be stopped https://buttondown.com/practicaltips/archive/i-am-afraid-my-stuffed-dinosaur-will-eat-us-all/

hmph. "Delectable Delights" is the topic, and as we get into it... DANISH, sure I can see that, CHOCOLATE, right, TRIFLE, I'm starting to get the vibe here yes, TOAST... hang on, what? Toast? I mean, toast is nice enough I suppose, but delectable? What's next? GRAPES? ok, maybe... SQUASH? PICKLE? _LINGUINI?!_ this is just a list of things _you_ like, isn't it? hmph. this is not a theme!
Do browsers provide a "show password" button (often an eye icon) in password fields now, or do websites still need to provide it manually if they want it? I'm sure some browsers do but I don't know whether it's enough that you can basically assume it's there or not. (I can work this out by looking, obviously, but I bet someone has worked this out already :-))
There's a priority display for you now somewhere, Margaret.

The People’s Republic of Birmingham friendlier than almost everywhere. Checks out. Liverpool, too.

Your valiant boy about to head into the European commission to meet a Big Tech Gatekeeper about the insane request by European commie users to run software they choose on devices they own.
good to see the D&D team getting a union!
It took a little while, but my petition has finally been published on the UK Parliament petitions website! 🎉
𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗨𝗞 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀
For people experiencing data poverty, accessing essential government services can come with a very real cost.
Whether someone is claiming benefits, accessing health services, looking for work, finding safety advice, or simply trying to understand their rights. I don’t believe they should have to pay for mobile data to access public services they have already helped fund through taxation.
The petition calls for UK Government websites and online services to be zero-rated, meaning they would not use a person’s mobile data allowance or require them to have paid data available.
If you agree that public services should be 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, please consider signing and sharing the petition. Every signature helps! 🙏
@zarfeblong I imagine you already know about this, but if you don’t maybe it needs looking into (maybe it’s UK-specific?): iOS blocks eblong.com in browsers.I don’t know why; maybe it thinks it’s adult? (Block screen text: “Website Not Allowed
"eblong.com" is a restricted website.
Add Website to Allowed List”)
I can’t add it to the approved list because iOS wants me to verify my age to do so, which I’m not doing (that’s a separate issue). Still, I’m fairly sure it shouldn’t be on the ban list?
and relatedly thanks for having Tom Fish too from the Data Transfer Initiative although I met him while he was at CMA @webstandards
Yeah @webstandards thanks for having us
If you're in London and interested in the web, come along tonight to hear Alex Moore of @owa fame, Tom Fish (a man we should all be thanking for reasons we'll reveal), and Kush from Mozilla.* Many things are afoot with browser competition, and they're prime movers.
From 7 in Shoreditch. Details and (free) registration on events page of the lovely hosts, @webstandards:
https://londonwebstandards.org/events/lws-owa-oct-2026/
*: also me, but they're the ones with interesting things to say
PDFs are so annoying on a phone. Can we convince people who make PDFs to either make websites or epubs instead, or to make a mobile friendly version like an m.website used to be?
(I know about “liquid mode”. It’s only on Acrobat and it’s not reliable in my experience, although it’s good when it works, which is by no means always.)
One of the advantages with being on a train and having slow crap mobile network is that quite often a page will load and you can read the article before all the popovers and mitherboxes and data theft banners load. It’s like browsing the web in 2008.

I'm really hoping to make it to ffconf. You should be too.
Today marks three years since we released Vivaldi for iOS. Hurray! We released Vivaldi on Android seven years ago. So what explains the iOS delay? Quite simply, Apple caused the delay. Here's a look at how we're working with other browsers and groups to liberate all platforms so you have the right to run the software you want on a device that you own. https://vivaldi.com/blog/ios/happy-3rd-birthday-vivaldi-on-ios/
