Chat is it good when "moderate Democrats" in San Francisco take money from the same billionaires funding MAGA?
(Chris Larsen, whose company Ripple donated $5m to the ballroom, donated $1m to Daniel Lurie's power grab Props D, E, and F, $500k to supervisor candidate Theo Ellington, and is a top-3 donor to the SF Democratic Party)

I didn’t recognize at the time what a masterpiece Deerhoof’s The Magic (2016) was. How foolish of me to have previously ranked Breakup Song (2012) over it as their best album of the 2010s
Golden Gate Sunset 17oct2026
The annual Golden Gate Sunset season started tonight, with the viewing point near the Ashby freeway exit. You can find each night's spot using my map: http://acme.com/jef/ggs/
No Kings, #SF
The counterintuitive thing for me is that the new play and exercise equipment, art installations, and picnic benches scattered along the park accentuate how empty the areas are that don’t have those things, like the two long blocks from Lawton to Noriega. I get suckered into locking my bike and walking bc there’s stuff to see but then these stretches are boring. Maybe when nice native plants have replaced the ice plant it’ll make a more joyful stroll.
Nice to see the new playground in #SunsetDunes!
So many political groups in SF were like, “Let’s not take a position on whether to destroy Sunset Dunes. It’s too divisive. Both sides make some good points”. I think there’s a disconnect. They wouldn’t say that if they’d been here. They’re thinking it’s still empty asphalt. #NoOnG
Sierra Club emailed me their SF Bay voter guide today, and it includes a nice blurb about why they're endorsing Yes on I!

They free immigrants from ICE in hours. S.F. says wait a year.
The Bay Area Habeas Network files emergency habeas petitions to free people arrested by ICE, often within hours. It asked San Francisco for $250,000 in August. The mayor’s office says the request will be considered as part of next year’s budget process....

The SF chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America has published their first-ever voter guide: https://dsasf.org/dsa-sf-november-2026-voter-guide/
It is quite long (the ballot is quite long), but it is indexed, the analysis is lucid, and you can read and focus on it in chunks. I think it’s particularly useful if you are interested in a socialist reading of the ballot choices.
There is plenty of evidence that violence and horror in US immigration is a bipartisan issue.
All of the social media checks that people complained about this year, they first did it to Muslims. Apparently that was okay in the name of national security, but not okay when Europeans have to fill that out.
Won't link to the awful video game that pits players against "zombies" in the Tenderloin. (Look on KRON if you must.)
Fed up with techbros treating most of us in SF as Non-Player Characters (NPCs) as if they were the only heroes in our city's story.
We have agency. We vote.
No on A, D, E and F.
"even if all the billionaires in California moved away, it would take 25 years before the lost income taxes matched what Prop 40 raises." Yes on 40, no on 41 and 42!
This guy is such a liar. He announced a single-stair policy—it was fake. He announced new eviction defense funds—they'd been approved months before. Lurie even told me he had written "gullible" on the ceiling, but I looked and it wasn't there.

I also appreciate the Last Note Nightmare at the end of "Arthur Square"
Finally listened to Guided by Voices' newest, Crawlspace of the Pantheon, from May. They've still got it. "Advance Without Dropping" is an early standout.
When AI gives you $3 million, that's a sign that you're the progressive candidate and man of the people, right?

The no on Prop I mailers are getting weirder and weirder. I'm expecting the next one to be like "Extreme Dean's new ballot measure might seem cool... but it could get you killed" and show @deanpreston doing an ollie
