A few weeks ago I ran a quick test: same WGS FASTQ, four aligners side by side. #bwa-mem, #minibwa, #bwamem3 and #Parabricks fq2bam on a GPU.
Along the way I found Picard was the real bottleneck, moved most post-processing to #samtools, then split-gathered BQSR.

The European Court of Human Rights has previously & correctly stated that even the mere storing of data relating to the private life of an individual amounts to an interference within the meaning of Article 8 (see Leander v. Sweden, 26 March 1987, § 48, Series A no. 116). Which means an agency needs a good reason to store any data, and the more it stores it the better the reason has to be. Proportionality.

In letzter Zeit bin ich gezwungen viel Auto zu fahren (elektrisch, dennoch doof). Dieses Land ist verrückt: Verstopfte, stinkende Straßen und kein Ende. Teure Energie einkaufen, auf günstige, saubere hinunterschauen. Seit Jahrzehnten wird gewarnt, Flutkatastrophen und Dürresommer mit Hitzetoten als erste Vorboten der sich anbahnenden Katastrophe werden aktiv ignoriert. Hauptsache keine Veränderung! 🤦♂️
Der Kipppunkt der Atlantikströmung #AMOC könnte bereits in wenigen Jahrzehnten überschritten werden - danach wäre ein Versiegen der Strömung nicht mehr aufzuhalten.
Nur eine sehr rasche Reduktion der Emissionen kann das Risiko vermindern. Forscher können nur warnen. 🌊

I have a long-term, from before my time, bottle of 0.1M hydrochloric acid. I've topped it up over the years using an inaccurate dilution that I titrated to get a good number, then diluted. And diluted again. And again.
So today the ~14yr old chemists were learning about titration. They've made standard solutions (particularly precise solutions of a very stable alkali) to balance against my "0.1M" acid, to get a really accurate measurement.... (1/n)

I love KDE. I've used it with Arch, Debian/Ubuntu, and Fedora underneath.
But Discover, the graphical software installer, is terrible. It crashes constantly, updates take forever to load, and now I'm watching it freeze up as it creates a bug report.
I tend to use the terminal for most package management stuff, but sometimes I like browsing a graphical software repository. Are there any alternatives to Discover that work well with KDE?

A) dass Schleswig-Holstein die Landesverwaltung auf Open Source umstellt - oder
B) dass eine Begleitstudie entstanden ist, damit andere vom Change Management lernen können.
