"…millions of people across the UK are struggling to afford the food they need–not because there isn't enough food, but because rising costs have outpaced wages and support…
14.1 million people in the UK are experiencing food insecurity
…this is a consequence of political decisions, not personal choices
The UK recognised the right to food in international law decades ago, but it has never been fully protected in UK law"

…the prosecution for contempt of court of a leading human rights barrister…is having a chilling effect across the bar
…alleged…to have breached the judge's directions by reminding the jury of their right to acquit on conscience – something the trial judge had barred the defence from alluding to
…proceedings against Menon were "born of fear that the jury might do the right thing"

"War does not only destroy homes and schools. It destroys the small details that make life meaningful: the sound of friends laughing, the warmth of a classroom, the pages of notebooks filled with dreams, and the people who were supposed to walk beside us into the future."
"Green party-led Lewisham council is planning to ban cooperation with the Home Office on ‘ICE-style’ immigration raids.
“…tear people away from their families, their neighbours and their communities…no place in a decent society,” Green leader Zack Polanski said.
“I’m proud of brave, compassionate Green councils in London working to create a corridor of sanctuary where nobody…has to live in fear of being snatched away from the place they call home.”"

"Trump is on the rampage again – trying to force governments to reject plans for action against the climate crisis.
Trump is targeting Vanuatu, for trying to protect all of us from climate catastrophe. The tiny Pacific island nation is bringing a landmark global climate resolution to a vote at the UN in just a few days, but the US is pushing them to withdraw.
A massive show of public support could make the difference"

Can someone explain to me why it is wrong to criticise the police for repeatedly kicking a tasered suspect in the head?
"Reform conducted a prize giveaway…the two winners had a historic connection to #NigelFarage…
First you entice people to sign up for something they need to get their personal data and then you only reward those who are already your devoted fans.
What we’re seeing here is what the UK will be like under a Reform government.
Farage’s party will sweep in on a wave of big promises, but nothing will happen, and they’ll ignore anyone asking ‘what gives?‘"

“Sustainable” palm oil is a big fat greasy #greenwashing lie.
" #Cuba has been under US embargo for over 60 years
Until January, Cuba was receiving oil at a discount from Venezuela.
Trump is not allowing any company that trades with Cuba to trade within the US.
…criminal blockade has consequences…refrigerated food goes off. Factories/Schools/Hospitals can’t operate.
Cuba’s crime is that it has developed public services, built universal healthcare and raised life expectancy comparable to or higher than the USA."

"We’re sick of being told that there is no alternative. That we should shut up and accept it as household costs spiral and wages fail to keep pace. That things which used to be possible, things that were normal not that long ago – free higher education, reliable and affordable buses, beaches you can safely swim at, being able to get a dentist appointment when you need one – are now too much to ask." — Hannah Spencer MP

"There are signs that Europe is starting to take the need for greater digital independence more seriously. In the Swedish coastal city of Helsingborg, for example, a one-year project is testing how various public services would function in the scenario of a digital blackout.
Would elderly people still receive their medical prescriptions? Can social services continue to provide care and benefits to all the city’s residents?"
"Something is off. At the last minute, #JusticeChamberlain was removed from the court hearing (happening now) that will decide the fate of #British peaceful #protesters, who took the streets to end the #genocide in #Gaza.
…over 2,200 peaceful protesters, many over the age of 60, risk being branded as terrorists and could face up to 14 years in prison.
It's almost unheard of to remove a judge so close to a hearing— #MinistryOfJustice refuses to explain why."

The global hunger monitor, the #IPC, says that #famine is now taking place across #Gaza City and the surrounding areas, where more than 500,000 people are currently living.
The #UN -backed IPC rarely confirms famine, and only when strict criteria have been met. These include more than 30% of children under 5 being acutely malnourished, and people dying every day from starvation and malnutrition, as is happening in Gaza right now.
