I really hope the new Mastodon v5 has a way to have a gray/neutral color "theme" because I feel like the white balance is way off on the of my OS when I switch tabs using any of the included colors.
I've released Amend 4.0, now with native resource file support so you no longer have to use SADerez, plus a bunch of bug fixes

The tiny Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin is famous for being the birthplace of Seymour Cray, and a bunch of Cray supercomputers he created. It was honestly really cool to visit so long after reading about this place and Cray’s history.
omg, incredible! this was definitely worth the extra effort. can you imagine the entire cockpit lit up in red like this?
**We still have some copies to send out! If you get your request in by Wednesday, it'll go out this week! Otherwise it will be sent out in November!**
Our new zine is here!
It's titled 'How to Spend Ten Years Repairing a Computer and Why You Should Too' - and we'd like to send out some free copies.
First 50 emails with the subject line "Zine, please" to mediaarchaeology+zine@proton.me will get a copy (U.S. only, sorry folks, trying to keep our postage costs under control).
You can also find a print-ready version of the zine at https://archive.org/details/lisazine
Sometimes it's the little details.
If only my screen had enough space playing a video in portrait mode for controls to not cover the image. Until that day..
Kids today will never believe this, but it used to be an important user interface design consideration that buttons for controlling stuff (like a media player, or paging through a series of photos) not cover up the stuff that the buttons control.
Imagine: videos, where the play and pause buttons were not on covering up the playing video content for any amount of time. “See next photo” buttons that didn’t overlap any part of the current photo you are looking at.
We can have it all again some day, I believe.
fellow newton owners: i’ve searched the newtontalk archives and many webpages, and i still do not have a clear answer: is it possible to transplant the digitizer+glass layer from an MP110 or MP120 into an MP130?
i’ve got an MP130 with cracked top glass (which i assume has caused the digitizer to stop working too). the LCD itself is just fine. i’ve got a few MP1x0s that could be used as donors.
i can’t tell if the digitizers have a parts interchange between models
💾 Anyone on my feed with a GreaseWeazle in upstate New York? I desperately need this PC-98 V20 compiler/assembler 5.25" imaged...

Apparently my hobby is reverse engineering Apple “custom” ICs from the 80s.
Here’s another one that I’ve finally gotten around to testing - the 6805 microcontroller in the Apple ii mouse card can be replaced with a 68705P3!
next week i'm doing a workshop to accompany the Alison Knowles exhibition at NYU's Grey Art museum, and they're letting us use the backup printer for "House of Dust" (Knowles' well-known work of procedural poetry from the 1960s). i went over to test the printer earlier today and catted whatever random text file i had in my working directory to the linux lp device, which happened to be some game boy assembly and... i dunno i thought it looked cool and wanted to share
A few days ago, @fozztexx posted a 1983 magazine clipping about a new $1000 music keyboard with built in printer. I was at first skeptical, knowing that some products were announced to magazines but never made it to production.
I was immediately intrigued, mainly because that “printer” used pens.
you know what, with all the projects i have in flight right now, it's time for -- another new project! this one is an Attitude Director Indicator probably from an F-4 Phantom II. it needs some work! 🧵
That time that I figured out how to get the Colour PenGraph EB50 typewriter to print from a modern Mac thanks to some hints from @paulrickards
svg to hpgl
Open that as text
Swap:
PD for D
PU for M
Divide the numbers by 10-ish
Send to the typewriter as a raw file with lp
Prints upside down from the bottom of the page up, but I can live with that for now.
Tonight I'm playing one of my favorite #Atari 8-bit arcade conversions, Konami's Gyruss. The excellent Atari port was done by the folks at Parker Brothers and features an awesome Pokey chip version of Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
I'm a bit rusty, but damn it is fun.
Getting excited about this Peter Beyls show at Bantam Tools Machine Arts Gallery here in Peekskill.
Is this not where my phone goes? Maybe Trio Dock? 🤔😆
I want a Firefox extension that knows how to replace every single "N months ago" label with the actual exact timestamp (using patterns for how the data is hidden in tooltips, click-to-expand, etc.).
That shit is SO unhelpful. Like if I'm looking back at git history, I don't care that a change was made roughly 3 months ago. I care whether it was made before or after an email I'm looking at that said something relevant to the change.
