"Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a lengthy lecture on medieval Slavic history to the leaders of Norway and Finland during an Oct. 27 phone call, offering little mention of an immediate ceasefire despite renewed diplomatic efforts to end Moscow's war in Ukraine, the Financial Times (FT) reported."
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
\o/ internet back, all hail internet. The only thing I learned is that I don't have enough offline media for casual viewing. Lots of good films, some TV series, but nothing casual.

Although maybe I should because our internet is STILL OUT. What the hell.
Last travails: the Redmond Goodwill (silk ties of dead men for the kid's jazz performance outfit, Ralph Lauren pillowcases), TK Maxx (discount soap!) and Target (boring tooth and hair goods). Thus ends the day of Outside. I have no reason to go there again.
I also bought these silly things at Half Price Books:
Today is mostly being spent out and around Bellevue and Redmond, as our sewer line is currently being replaced. The good news is that there is PLENTY to do. So far we've already tried out a new diner (Chace's Pancake Corral, worth revisiting), grocery shopped at Asian Family Market and raided Daiso.
Hi! I'm looking for a job or gig! I live in the US (Central Indiana), and would much much rather work remotely.
I have system administration experience with #WindowsServer, #Linux, and #OpenBSD professionally. I strongly prefer the #BSD family of OSes and am willing to work with #NetBSD and #FreeBSD professionally and have played with them off the job. I have done this for about three years.
I also know graphic design. My preferred programs are #GIMP and #Inkscape, but I can use #Photoshop or #Illustrator if need be. I have done this for a decade.
I have skills in development, especially web development, and have professionally developed with #Javascript, #Python, and #Go. I also am trying to familiarize myself with #VisualBasic6 for legacy maintenance. I also have experience working with Microsoft #SQLServer databases, as well as played with other major SQL servers. I've also played with many other languages. I'm also willing to familiarize myself with a tech stack on the fly. As implied, I am willing to touch legacy code.
I have also designed websites, and am quite familiar with #HTML and #CSS. I also got #JQuery to play nicely as well.
I am a jack of all trades, with my strongest skills I feel be in system administration and graphic design.
LLMs and generative AI are something I prefer to avoid where possible. I have experience with working under tight deadlines with a micromanaging boss before recent hype around LLMs, though I'd rather avoid such things if possible.
My company is moving away from Workday and as a result my position is being eliminated. If anyone in the fediverse is looking for HRIS support with Workday please feel free to reach out.
Boosts welcome and appreciated.
Took basically all day for me to remove the old beds, move enough dirt to place the new bed, and fill the new bed.
The Guardian: Walter Koenig, actor best known as Chekov on Star Trek, dies aged 90

"That would mean a potential withdrawal of Nato troops from Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as Finland, which joined the alliance in 2023. "
I mean really. What organization on this planet would entertain a request like this from the very entity it's set up to oppose? After that entity has invaded a sovereign nation, deliberately slaughtered a civilian population and actively sabotages member country's infrastructure. Russia has no right, no positioning, no nothing. Fuck off.

Yeah, editing privileges for NATO is not a thing that is going to happen for Putin. I'm guessing that's the point though - he has no real interest in ending the invasion. It doesn't matter how many people die, expanding Russia and oppressing the Baltics/Europe is his goal. And so this will continue until he's dead.

Oh, that's right. Slovakia. Their next elections are in September 2027. We have to put up with nearly a whole year of Robert Fico and co being the last Putinists in Europe. 🤮
Wondering if as an experiment...
1) One were to develop a new programming language, let's call it Greg.
2) One were also to write some excellent, complete documentation of that language.
3) One were to absolutely NOT put any example programs of that language anywhere online. Just don't use the language at all.
If you were then to say Claude for example - "Write me a program to perform task X in the new programming language Greg, here is the language's documentation", I suggest that there is absolutely no chance in hell it would output a viable program
LLMs can't code because they "understand" programming from first principles, they can only code because of the library of code in their training data.
BRAZIL!!!!! What a good day for elections. Shout out to Ukraine for bombing those data centers right when we all needed it the most.
Are there any overtly pro-Putin leaders left in Europe now? Serbia and Hungary were the big ones. France has the whole Le Pen problem I guess. Hopefully they deal with that ASAP.
A good day for Serbia, and also the rest of the world, as the corrupt piece of garbage running their country is thrown out of power. Good luck to the new guys! These are annoying/difficult times.
