God I love my friends. I've got @skinnylatte posting about biryani flavored condoms immediately followed by @chozari saying 'Don't snort the bumbu seasoning from mi goreng noodles.' Edit: also me, supplying an extremely dirty interpretation to Walt Whitman's 'I contain multitudes.'
Just finished with my therapist.
Feeling enormously unburdened. *whew*
This last month has been a bit much.
Hi toots. Still grappling with fatigue and I am NGL I slept for most of today. I'm meeting two treasured colleagues for dinner at 5.30 so I got myself looking schmick. Trying now to avoid napping before my bus arrives! We're taking the young one to Nour in Surry Hills, probably my favourite Sydney resto.
Morning toots.
I spent Tue-Wed feeling like I had the worst flu ever but today I'm feeling better — still fragile but well enough to log on for work.
While I was sleeping some colleagues generously put my name on an article for The Conversation that draws on some work I did in partnership with Prof Kath Albury:
We've heard a range of things about the DDoC Bill including that it no longer includes ministerial discretion to define harms, that it now contains an exception for health promotion and harm reduction, and that it's likely to be referred to a Senate committee (which would be great — we could give evidence highlighting all its flaws).
Purchased aniseed rings for Mum. The receipt came with this blessing:
''It is always great to brighten your day with Licorice and we hope you have kissable lips all day with the delicious delivery.'
Eww?
I got the rituximab infusion at 4PM after waiting from 10.30AM 🫠 I was so overstimulated I took an Uber home and took meds and went to sleep.
Woke around 4AM feeling like I was chilled to the bone and could never get warm again. Outside temp was 21 and internal temp was my usual 36.5 so I'm chalking that up to immune thingies thinging.
It is hard to assess if I'm feeling any better because the placebo effect is so strong. This drug feels really special to me — I'm literally fond of it — because of my earlier experiences with it. Also, biosimilars notwithstanding, it is still fucking expensive and I feel grateful for the public investment in my health.
I guess my answer is 'yes, I feel a little better, and I don't care if it's fake.' I am probably just breathing easier now the initial drama has subsided. (I'm notorious for shallow breathing when stressed.)
I've told work not to expect me before midday so I'm just having tea and toast before I see if a nap will take.
ALSO I need to call my ex with an update or he's never going to talk to me again.
Met with the haematologist at '9AM' (10.05) and he doesn't think there's a reactivation of CLL going on. Thank fuck for that.
He was happy to skip the steroids altogether and go straight to second line treatment. My bloods and urine results made him think my GP picked it up early in the course of illness.
He's a cute nerd, very gentle and very sincere. I can see why my ex likes him 😆
Apparently there's a 30% risk of blood clots so he wants to see if he can get me in for an infusion today. We cracka-lackin 😎
I'm hanging out in the clinic waiting room, which is cool and quiet apart from the admin staff gossiping quietly and cackling loudly. After spending the weekend mostly lying flat these chairs do not spark joy.

Kiwibank is desperately trying to stop people saying they want to fuck its sheep mascot.
This is why you need multigenerational input into ad creative and sign-off. A gen Z would have spotted this disaster in the making from a mile away.
Morning toots. I'm waiting for a reformer pilates class. Then I have a full day of meetings. I'm not feeling the best. Had dysphagia at brekkie and I'm feeling out of breath. I have a GP appointment to bring this up for discussion this afternoon. Wish me luck.
My job application is submitted! Please cross your digits for me, I would love to make a career move right about now. 😩
From the reviews for a major gallery. There is something qwhite interesting here.
Treated like a fucking idiot by my boss and every time this happens I get on Ethical Jobs and see what's available.
Today I found something. Wish me luck.
Wow it's a fucking wild night out there on the 'Inner West Ale Trail' in Marrickville.
Some gronk dinging his way laboriously down the road on an electric rent-a-bike he hasn't signed into.
People in groups shouting.
Humidity 110%.
High winds causing doors that don't even shut normally to slam closed.
I'm trying to stay up later so I get a better night's sleep but it's touch and go...
Apropos of nothing, on my Android phone 'turd' autocorrects to Rudd.
I've got a reminder in my calendar this weekend that it's 6 years since my best friend and fairy godmother Anna died.
So of course all four teams competing in today's AI safety hackathon chose to focus on a scenario involving the creation of a deathbot that memorialises and perhaps continues to represent a person who has died.
I was doing fine until one of the groups said the point of grieving is to remodel your relationship with a person who was living and is now passed.
WELP. Nearly cried all over them. Managed to hold back the waterworks but I would have been visibly emotional. Not what you'd expect from a mentor and judge!
@alexh Hi Alex! My little sister was an undergrad student of yours and suggested you might have some thoughts on why she sees these pills as clearly orange and I see them as clearly pink. Any relevant processes you can identify?
Help me resolve a tiny dispute. Are the pills on the right pink or orange?

Thank for this @auscandoc. I'm contemplating instituting a self-exclusion requirement for the conference I run each year and this is super useful info.
Folks, how would you feel and react if a conference said 'if you have become sick with respiratory symptoms in the past seven days, please do not come'?

IA(some weird kind of)L and there are many things tech folks espouse as truth that make me wince but the touching faith in the GPL makes me want to cry.
Never been tested in court.* The drafting is essentially fan service for technolibertarians.
* The one case that did litigate the issue in relation to a different nominally open source license was the recent USSC decision on Android and that went Google's way, i.e. in legal terms it behaved like a traditional license rather than conferring rights to free use.
