🥱 Microsoft has announced “digital sovereignty”. Again.

Every time, it’s new terms that mean little when a foreign government can still demand your data or cut off your services.

The stack, licensing, updates and rules stay under Microsoft’s control, not yours. That’s sovereignty-washing.

We go into more detail in our latest article on the topic: 👉 https://nextcloud.com/blog/sovereignty-washing-microsoft-cloud

The PHP project has released fixes for the vulnerabilities.

We urge you to update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35, released on 21.10.26.

Nextcloud AIO v14.4.1 and Nextcloud E-AIO v8.4.0 will include the updated PHP versions. We will publish these versions once the underlying base images are available.

Official advisory: https://www.php.net/index.php#2026-10-21-5

⚠️ We have been informed by CERT of an issue affecting PHP:

https://cert.europa.eu/publications/security-advisories/2026-018 https://www.php.net/archive/2026.php#2026-10-20-1

This would affect all online PHP servers and operations including Nextcloud as well as WordPress and other popular services.

The CERT recommendation is to turn off servers running PHP based applications until updates to PHP are available and can be applied.

We will release an update as soon as more information is known about affected PHP versions and availability of updates.

🇩🇰 With double last year’s attendance, #Nextcloud Enterprise Day Copenhagen, is our biggest event in the Nordics yet.

A big thank you to all our attendees, speakers and sponsors 💙

We’ve had quite a discussion on digital sovereignty. Here are some moments from the day 📸

#NextcloudEnterpriseDay

When a Microsoft employee prompts Copilot to "create a hero image for a blog post talking about sovereign cloud technology", this is what happens. We do feel flattered, though.

A highlight for me from the @nextcloud Community Conference last month was moderating “Why you should contribute” with Anna Larch, Camila Ayres, Laura Kramolis and Christian Fu Müller.

2 messages stayed with me:

“AI belongs to the commons.”
⚡️Reclaim it, openly.

"Your code will still be there tomorrow. And take care of yourself"
💙 Contributions are gifts.

An open and very human discussion. Check it out on PeerTube: https://peertube.nextcloud.com/w/kr9aFq38TiDKcA38UgFoi6

Thanks everyone for your impressions! Sounds like Nura is already very capable and the main drawback right now is limited device support. Always great to see Linux on mobile making good progress.

✍️ Writing your documents in Markdown means they can be opened on any machine and are readable both rendered and as raw text. However, adding comments to Markdown files usually requires some hacks and workarounds.

Not anymore! Nextcloud Text, Notes, and Collectives now support comments natively ✅

And the best thing: They use established Markdown syntax that can be rendered in other tools with Markdown support, just without the nice UI.

postmarketOS recently changed its name to "Nura", a reference to Sardinian stone structures that have endured for thousands of years. Pretty nifty.

Are you a postmarketOS/Nura user? How does it compare to Ubuntu Touch or even Android? And did you run into any issues during installation?

“Is Euro-Office only for Europeans?” 🤔

Henry Fisher (@techlore) asked @Karlitschek, Nextcloud founder, at the Nextcloud Community Conference 2026 in Berlin.

The full interview answering this question and more is already on the TechLore channel.
