I have been to the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. It's a good experience, it's huge (we saw maybe 30% in 2 hours), and the building itself is beautiful.
Notes:
- This is not a museum full of sci-fi and Star Wars stuff. Those things are there, but just a small slice. The bulk of what's hanging is representational (broadly speaking) art, 95% with people in the image.
- I normally rail against the ginormous amount of text that museums put on the wall. This one puts none up, and it actually needs a little for context. For example, there was an alcove of work by Frank Frazetta, but no indication at all that the images were for book jackets.
- This is where you want to take friends/family visiting Los Angeles, not LACMA. It is so so so much better. And that opinion is coming from someone who likes abstract art WAY more than representational - Lucas is still more enjoyable, more human, and more alive than that pretentious concrete sarcophagus they propped up over Wilshire Blvd.
