Twitter was definitely a mixed bag, and tilted a bit dystopian at times itself. The public response to its corporate raiding and despoilation has me a bit inspired, however. The movement towards non-corporate social media feels like we're clawing back a little corner for ourselves again. I feel just a little bit of the old hope.

So, I would like to offer the following sentiment:

"Users of the internet unite! You have nothing to lose but your algorithmically managed engagement!"

At the time, governments seemed the biggest threat to our use, enjoyment, and freedom on the internet. Over time, however, these threats have shifted and corporations and giant social media sites have produced information dystopias both as we feared and in new, unanticipated ways.
