Oh, *this* is scummy.

Amazon, owner of IMDB (The Internet Movie Database), has decided that being logged into Amazon when you visit IMDB automatically means you consent to them auto-creating an account on IMDB for you. And, of course, transferring your personal info from Amazon to IMDB to populate that account.

And *that* account is by default signed up to all of their spam and marketing preferences.

All of this happens with zero clicks - no consent whatsoever.

I'm going through and turning it all off, and will try to see if I can just delete it completely afterwards.

Once in a while, my authenticator app asks if I'm "enjoying" using it. I do not know how to answer that question. It's doing what I need it to do, I have not (to my knowledge) been hacked, but do I *enjoy* having to pull up a six digit code whenever I log in anywhere? Not exactly.

Whenever fascism is on the rise the discussion shifts away from one's effect and towards one's intent. Germany's Federal Administrative Court just decided that sending swastikas, posting images depicting Hitler as Jesus, or making jokes claiming the Holocaust didn't happen, are not, in fact, unconstitutional or hate speech, as the intent to spread Nazi ideology could not be proven.

Several judicial officials did these things in an internal group chat and all but one got away with a warning.

When in history did it ever matter whether it was your intent to do something? It matters what you did and what the effect of your actions were.

Yes, they should bring back Blockbuster. Video rental stores in general. But up them up.

Put a coffee bar there. Put a bar bar there. Make it social. I'd hang there every Friday or Saturday for hours just looking for what to watch, and mingling.

F*ck streaming. Give me a blu-ray and let's go.

I am a bit bummed all my computer science professors are:

1.) Using Generative AI tools to create and our grade our coursework

2.) Using course material they themselves don't seem to be familiar. A small counter-example my math professors seem very keyed into what they'll be teaching and how every lecture.

3.) In no way inspiring or cultivating real learning. It's all by the numbers.

It's a bit deflating. I'm very pro-education, but this semester does not bode well for my future courses.

I'm just not sure how I can find common ground with someone who thinks they are generating a new enforceable copyright by saying "Claude, make me an app" rather than violating the copyrights of everyone whose code was used in the training data (at any point) who didn't explicitly allow such permissive uses in their license.

I'm not sure what consumer would be against it but it should be illegal to automatically opt-in customers.
