Also our installation about sabotage committed to the bit and sabotaged itself the day before the opening. 🫠

Always good to know somebody at the local hackerspace: spare parts, a soldering iron and a few hours later, it’s back up and running. 🛠️❤️

Today we are opening our new large-scale neon LED installation «HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf». The work is produced by invitation from the City of Zurich's public art programme (KiÖR). From tonight it lights up the façade of the Energiezentrale Josefstrasse in Zurich throughout the coming winter.

🗑️📎🚫🖥️⛔ HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf

The work is prompted by Zurich's claim to be the "Silicon Valley of Europe" and takes its cue from a declassified manual for simple sabotage from the Second World War. The 1944 Simple Sabotage Field Manual contains instructions on how to slow down work under fascist occupation. It became one of the most downloaded PDFs amongst staff in the first days after Donald Trump's inauguration in 2025.

HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf is placed strategically along the railway line into the city, as an instructional invitation aimed at the city's tech workers and commuters. It is an intervention in public space that confronts the logic of working under digital systems of control with a series of instructions calling for slowness, detours, inefficiency and refusal.

HowToSabotageWorkBetter_2027.pdf transforms the façade of the Energiezentrale Josefstrasse and you may also come across the instructions on the rear of city buses, as stickers and as virtual backgrounds on video calls, extending the intervention into public space and everyday working life.

@mediengruppe_bitnik intermittent internet rules!

took many websites offline for the moment or at least till php is patched.
100% uptime is overrated anyway
nice to be offline from time2time 🔌💤

Losing A/I - What's next?
As admins and organizers, in light of A/I's forced shutdown and increased repression against Palestinians and solidarity movements, what are our next steps? How can we strengthen existing hosting collectives and resist state oppression? How can we support those who need safe(r) digital services who need to migrate? Where can they migrate to? Was this an escalation of state repression against hosting collectives? Or a continuation of past events?
Join us for an evening to discuss these questions, mourn and find ways to resist.

We are still looking for people to give a short input on their experience - especially organizers in the Palestine solidarity movement and from existing IT collectives. write us at resist@highlyunavailable.net.

Happy to announce the 6 residents 🪰 of our open call »Ignore All Previous Instructions« @ Akademie Schloss Solitude 🪰 (Web Residencies N°22)! 🪰

So many brilliant projects and proposals came in 🪰 from around the world, and it was hard to say no 🪰 to so many of them. But we're thrilled about the six we selected! 🪰🪰

⊘ automatonomy.net (@agajdosi) ⟶ »What You See Is Not What They Get«: 🪰 an open-source method that scrambles website text for AI scrapers 🪰 while keeping it visually legible to humans through a custom font 🪰

⦸ Lucia Rebolino ⟶ »www: vanity veils violence«: counter-maps the colonial, economic & environmental realities hidden 🪰 behind desirable country-code domains like .ai, .io & .tv 🪰🪰

✕ Herdimas Anggara ⟶ »RASUK, Poisoning My Own SEO«: 🪰 builds websites from misspellings of the artist's name to confuse search engines 🪰 & destabilize AI-generated identity 🪰

☒ Tara Kelton ⟶ »Work Party«: uses delivery apps to organize brief gatherings 🪰 where gig workers & customers share food, tea & conversation 🪰 within the platform's own constraints 🪰

⊗ Précieux Kinmagbo ⟶ »Terms & Conditions«: an interactive encounter with the Lukasa memory board, 🪰 where extraction attempts meet Mbudye protocols 🪰 of counter-questioning, riddling & partial disclosure 🪰

⛒ Olivier Jonvaux ⟶ »A Fly Like Thee«: 🪰 an open-source plugin that detects AI crawlers 🪰 & makes their invisible visits visible 🪰 as flies accumulating on the webpage 🪰🪰🪰

Full jury statement, 🪰 and much more importantly, more about the works and the residents: 🪰 https://www.akademie-solitude.de/en/web-residencies-ignore-all-previous-instructions/ 🪰

also: the program is actually pretty good. Palestine, military build-up, the militarization of public space (especially in Berlin neighborhoods with lots of migrant families), racism, topics that have been missing or pushed out of the left conversation in Germany for too long. if you're in Berlin this weekend, worth going.

ROTBOTS – exhibition

/rosa, Heidelberger Str. 28, 12059 Berlin

Opening: Wednesday, 30 September 2026
Exhibition: 1–17 October 2026, open Thursday–Sunday
Panel discussion "Tactical Rot": @Vuk Ćosić and Geert Lovink, 4 October 2026 (afternoon)

ROTBOTS is a project by distant.gallery, Zentrum für Netzkunst, and @vernetztematerialitaet / Networked Materiality (AdBK Nürnberg) exploring automated content as artistic practice. While we celebrate workers' rights, protest inequality and the rise of fascism, ROTBOTS looks at a new reshuffle of resources and the means of production: not looms or assembly lines, but the means of thought itself, of paraphrasing and meaning-making. Every prompt typed and every click measured feeds a content machine whose owners have automated not only labour but the labourer. When the bosses owned the newspapers, workers printed their own. Now they own the algorithms. So we build our own machines.

ROTBOTS develops semi-autonomous content machines: systems that generate and distribute artistic brainrot across social media. Rather than feeding existing extractive platforms, the project asks whether automated content can become a form of resistance. In workshops with Sam Lavigne & @tegabrain (16 May 2026), Clusterduck (5 June 2026), @iocose (13 June 2026), and @mediengruppe_bitnik (2 July 2026), participants modified, tested, hacked and reconfigured modular tools for text and image generation and automated publishing. They developed content machines based on their own practices while contributing to a shared pool of materials. Selected outcomes will be presented in a collective exhibition, alongside the release of the project's used code on GitHub.

The project was initiated by Constant Dullaart in collaboration with Fabian Hampel and the Networked Materiality class at AdBK Nürnberg. Funded by the Stiftung Kunstfonds.

Tomorrow I get to show the WIP of a short film I’ve been working on about decolonising the web @ The Photographer’s Gallery!! If you’re in London, come down! 🥳

Reminder [2/3]— next Thursday, 17 Sept., Error 417 Expectation Failed will be in London at The Photographers Gallery for “I miss the Internet”, a day of workshops, talks and performances that explore how internet memory, nostalgia and platform power shape our understanding of the web’s past, present and future.

🕳Discussion: Netstalgia Not Acceptable

3-4pm
The idea of a singular lost internet obscures the many histories, infrastructures and unequal power relations that have always shaped networked technologies. Netstalgia often produces a flattened, idealised image of the past, one that can itself become exploitable, mobilised by platforms and companies that profit from our desire for authenticity and community.

Join Olia Lialina, Jonathan W.Y. Gray and Winnie Soon for this round table discussion exploring how internet memory, nostalgia and platforms shape our understanding of the web.

🕳Workshop: Olia Lialina – A Day in One Terabyte of Kilobyte Age. Last Updated April 27, 2009.

11am-3pm (SOLD OUT)
This workshop offers participants the opportunity to explore the early web through the interface of the GeoCities Research Institute, an ongoing digital art and archiving project that explores, preserves, and showcases early web vernacular culture using a massive dataset of rescued GeoCities websites, guided by net artist and keeper of the archive Olia Lialina.

Working with this archive, participants will investigate thousands of webpages mistakenly dated "Last Updated April 27, 2009" during the archiving process. Together, we'll ask: How do we recognise the age of a website? What makes something feel "old" online? And what kinds of knowledge emerge when we slow down and read the web on its own terms?

Who would've expected that?!
