For #InternationalBlackCatDay, I give you Layla the Eternally Surprised, this time surprised that she doesn’t fit.

#BlackCatAppreciationDay

All my* effort recently has gone into renovating a 125 year old house so we can move in. Yesterday I found beautiful old wood underneath many many layers of paint.

*the husband has been working on the bathroom mostly. I don’t do plumbing and he can, so I get the fun stuff like tearing off a century of other people’s renovations.

I baked a sourdough loaf, first time in years.
Tomorrow we’ll see if it’s edible, or another dwarf bread.
I’ve baked two dwarf breads when trying to make sourdough. A decade or two later, they’re still as edible as they were the day they were baked.

Today’s t-shirt. A random person informed me it was an old shirt. I told them I knew.

Who’s more upset, the one who wants the seat or the one who won’t give up the seat?

Baking help needed, please - boosts appreciated
The daughter wants a red velvet roll - with no red dye - as a birthday cake. I have an old recipe for red velvet cake, but I don’t know about converting it to a rollable cake. I can’t afford the ingredients to experiment much.
All the red velvet roll recipes I can find online or in my cookbooks require red dye, and many specify that it’s necessary for texture and taste.
I need a recipe please!

Just because it’s Caturday doesn’t mean someone won’t take your mousy if you don’t hide and protect it.

I have been accepted to my first film festival!

Stunned and amazed - and grateful.

Potential strawberries! They will undoubtedly be eaten by chipmunks and squirrels, not me, no matter what kind of cover the bed has. The critters are more persistent in their pursuit of fresh organic fruit than I am.

After my mother died, I inherited the cast iron lamb cake mold. Every year at Easter, we bake a lamb cake and slaughter it and eat it (did I mention we met while volunteering with a haunted house?) Yes, there’s usually strawberry jam in the neck to make the slaughter more fun.
So that’s how The Slaughter of the Lamb became our Easter tradition.

The following year, he brought a lamb cake from the bakery to eat after dinner. My mother was horrified although the cousins applauded him and happily ate cake with him after dinner.
