The first tanker of Russian diesel is set to arrive by November 7. So good luck lowering diesel prices by election day.

It’s kind of great that these AI companies hitched themselves to meteoric growth and now things like local construction permitting or neighborhood data center opposition are enough to torpedo the fever dream.

In all this Cornell talk, why would anyone send their daughter to a school where 35% of undergraduate women reported having been sexually assaulted? Seems like a decent question to ask in campus visits.

Edit : Or their son? What the hell culture is going on over there?

Happy Stanislav Petrov day!

Today marks 43 years since Petrov decided to wait for confirmation before escalating a missile alert up the chain of command in the Soviet Air Defense, preventing nuclear war.

A hero for not trusting automated systems fully.

"He also spoke of signing up to go fight in Korea from a town in rural Kentucky. He went off to the store in town, got recruited, and it was 4 weeks before he could mail a letter to his dad explaining where he went. Now 60 years later he still suspects that the army recruiter threw out his groceries."

Here comes the collapse

A single elected official has pushed the timeline for Oracle's "Project Jupiter" data center back 6 months, refusing to approve a huge gas pipeline that would cross state trust land.

New Mexico land commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard, stating “no significant benefits for state lands," calling the burden on water and natural resources "extreme" and pointing out that it is “literally doubling down on dangerous emissions."

Oracle shares fell about 4% on Friday

All the dermatology nurses have skin like they stepped out of a moisturizer commercial. I wouldn't notice it except there's about 20 of them, all kind of radiating a lifetime of good skincare.

The word “robot” comes from a 1920 Czech science fiction play, “Rossum's Universal Robots” by writer Karel Čapek.

In the play the robot rebellion destroys the human race.

The Strait of Hormuz is 10% of the world's oil supply. When Iran closed it for two weeks at the beginning of the war, a barrel of oil went from $70 -> $100.

The Bab-el-Mandeb ("Gate of Grief" in Arabic) controls 7% of the world's oil supply. Back of the envelope math says that if the Houthis can close that for two weeks, it should drive the price of oil up by $21.

So in two weeks we could be at $110 - $120 for a barrel of Brent crude, or $4.31 - $4.70 for a gallon of gas in the U.S.

Price of ground beef hits an all time high at $ 6.975 / pound, up 14% from $6.103 a year ago. #inflation

All these smart speakers / digital assistants adding "AI mode" don't seem to understand that most people don't want a follow up conversation with the kitchen timer.

I bet the U.S. will sign a nuclear with Iran about the time we see the Republican health care plan and Mexico paying for the wall and China paying for the tariffs.

It will all be in two weeks.

Went to my local taco place after mountain biking, and the one bartender was having trouble with her car- a 2008 Infiniti sedan- it wouldn't go above 20 mph. The other bartender diagnosed it as being in "limp" mode, when it thinks you have both the brake and gas pedal pushed, and said it needed a $10 part.

While I was eating tacos he left, went to the auto parts store, bought the part, came back, fixed it, and walked back in a damn genius. $10. Legend!

S&P 500 will not waive 12-month seasoning period for SpaceX. S&P said the decision "preserves core index principles."

LOL at "Core Index Principles." Like they have tenets at S&P.

If Karoline Leavitt is on maternity leave, they should bring back Sean Spicer! That guy could lie.

The ads for AI show workers clicking a button and their task is done. So easy! Maybe they pop off to a yoga class.

But in the new AI empowered work instead of one task you’ll have ten, all failing in some unique way, and you’ll need to be constantly context switching between the tasks, your chat, your meeting reminders, and your manager will tell you to ask your teammates for help but they’re also drowning.
