Maybe I'm too much of an engineer, but I never liked the mic drop meme. Microphones are amazing, sensitive devices and the more I know learn about them, the more I appreciate them 🎤🫲

Weird question: how do you take regular breaks?

I know I work better if I take regular breaks, like at least once an hour. I know about Pomodoro. But most of my days have meetings, calls and other spontaneous distractions that cause natural breaks. So don't want to set a timer that may distract me shortly after I return to a task (again).

I feel it's something I should be able to do with some mental trick, but once I'm deep into a task, I just forget about my commitment to take breaks.

Things that intelligent, computer using people have often asked me:

- Where is the meeting? (in the calendar's location field)
- Where's the document called so and so? (gDrive's search isn't that bad)
- Where are the meeting notes? (in the same place as all other meetings)
- Can you update the spreadsheet with these numbers?
- Can you remind me to do that thing tomorrow?

I think software people underestimate how much people dislike computers and don't care at all for automation.

Yeah that's it—from now on, when people talk to me about AI, I'm going to respond as if it's about Adobe Illustrator. It's more fun than asking, do you mean LLMs, a specific LLM, machine learning in general, or just any software algorithm?

So I know nobody cares about Bing, but I just discovered it has a useful Site Scan feature to find broken links on your site.

If you set up Bing Webmasters already, you it's just a few clicks to start the scan:

I should probably thank @csstricks but it must have been years ago that I read about that property so I'm just saying thank you to everyone sharing their knowledge here :D

Oooh yeah, I ran into a bug in #Safari where an element that was transitioned to zero opacity and `display: none` remained visible. And solved it by applying `will-change: opacity`

First time I really need that one. Reading all your #css blog posts is paying off, is what I'm saying!

I’m looking for what seems impossible headphones!

- Over ear (my ear canals don’t like in-ear)
- Light (I want to wear them when jogging/with a bicycle helmet)
- Decent enough sound for music
- Preferably cabled, but cables shouldn’t break after 6–12 months

Koss headphones tick all the boxes except that they’re too fragile.

Help please!

As likely the tallest person in within sight, I actually enjoy being asked to get something off the top shelves in supermarkets 🗽

A common challenge with #CSS layouts is items that are too wide for the screen, causing horizontal scroll bars. The easy fix is to add `overflow-x: auto;` to the layout.

But somebody posted once somewhere that you shouldn't do that, as the problem is with the wide element and not with the layout. By blocking scroll on the layout level, you're likely not going to notice that you're hiding content that way.

I didn't want to believe that, but it's been annoyingly consistently true for me!

It's like everyone who's surprised that LLMs provide '27' as a response to guessing a number between 1 and 50 has forgotten they're interacting with a *large language model*.

People are somewhat predictable when coming up with 'random' numbers. It shouldn't come as a surprise that this is reflected in the writing that was used as training data.

As language models, they're bad at math creating random numbers is a lot harder than the basic algebra they can't even do well.

Finally had a look at Ramaphosa handling the white house crazy and I don't know if I've ever seen anyone this cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytJA8fwP728

If you're using https://adplist.org for mentoring sessions and care about your #privacy, I recommend you do the calls via another platform. They've rolled out a note-taking system that records everything said in your sessions.

🥸 There's no mentioning of this in the privacy policy, but it looks like an #LLM-based solution from a third party.

Support says it's still in beta. Which perhaps explains why the notes are rubbish 😄 But the settings screen is not a new feature, so maybe they're all in on vibe coding now too?

But the worst part is: they ask you to opt in and ignore that if you don't 😱

I don't know about your mentoring sessions, but I like to talk there without some startup listening along.

These products are far from perfect. They need QA. People need to listen to recordings to make sure the voice to text works. People need to check if the summaries make sense. Also, I don't want these summaries, flawed as they are, to be on several email servers indefinitely.

I'm trying to style a <meter> (that's a progress bar, kind of).

It requires the non-standard, browser-specific selector mess you probably know from <input type="range">. So I'm thinking, maybe I should just make the <meter> hidden but accessible and recreate the thing with two <div>s.

Then I'd have less and easier to read code and more predictable browser support. Am I overlooking something?

Hey hold on, so support for markdown in toots depends on the instance where you write the post and not on the client/instance that serves the post?

I want my _italics_ back!

Regardless of it being dumb or smart, they won. Because nobody gives a damn about the air strike now.

Unless that whole bunch is getting the boot, today.

Adding the Atlantic reporter to the group chat may have been entirely intentional to show:

- It was never about her emails
- They are above the law
- The Atlantic isn't publishing anything relevant in time, because they flood the zone™️
