Tudie seems quite content as she snoozes snuggled against my side while I do things on my laptop.

Eleven years ago tomorrow (July 5th) we adopted a 10-month-old cat from the Michigan Humane Society shelter near us. Her name then was "Natalie" but we soon found she was full of "catitude" so we started referring to her as "Miss Attitude" which shortly became "Miss 'Tude" which soon became "Tudie" and that stuck.

When we adopted her, her Siamese ancestry was much easier to see as in the picture at the left, but she is still a beautiful cat. Although her one eye is discolored, her vision in that eye is fine.

Happy Adoptaversary Tudie!

Posting today since it's #caturday

Brea is 5 years old today!

A friend of my daughter's took in a pregnant cat and, once the kittens were born, worked to find good homes for them. My daughter adopted Smudge (not pictured) and we adopted Brea.

Brea is not impressed at my attempt to get a birthday portrait.

Afternoon cuddle time for Jack. (Tudie is sleeping at the other end of the couch and Brea is on the back)

I think Tudie likes snuggling next to me on the couch.

Money may not buy happiness but it does allow you to adopt a cat which is pretty much the same thing.

Good news at the vet today! Tudie's bladder infection has been conquered and she has gained a little more of her weight back. Not as heavy as she was before the infection but at a good weight for her even if she doesn't add any more.

Two weeks of administering an antibiotic pill every day did the trick. Not that it was easy -- it took two adults and a pill shooter. Even then, she'd sometimes spit it back out and we'd have to try again (and again) until success. The meme says it all.

Idle thought: Is it really going to be a ballroom or is it intended to be a throne room?

It's been a cloudy, dreary day here in SE Michigan but Jack doesn't mind. Any day is good for taking a snooze in any old position that works.

I think Tudie is dreaming that she is SuperCat.

I know you like the work of Alphonse Mucha so when I noticed (from the file name) the image seemed to follow the style of Mucha, I thought of you.

Jack likes the sink to rest in and doesn't care if you want it.

🎂 Happy Birthday to Jack who is 1 year old today. May you continue to bring laughter and joy to our home for many years to come.

Just get off Mom's puzzle book and leave Tudie alone. 😜

I usually post pictures of my cats but today Ill post a picture of my daughter's two Siberian Huskies.

We were celebrating my wife's birthday and our 54th(!) wedding anniversary at a local park when the boys decided to be especially photogenic.

How Jack can be comfortable in this position I really don't know but somehow he is because he is sleeping soundly.

I think Jack is happy we adopted him.

(Part 2)

I did not expect to get another cat right away. To me, that
would be a betrayal of our memories of Jax. I did say, however, that
perhaps come spring when the shelter receives many kittens, we might
take a look. Half-jokingly I said we would look for a gray/white, male,
tuxedo kitten and call him "JJ" for "Jax Junior."

The day after Jax left us, I was overcome by an irresistible urge to
look at Petfinder even though I didn't really want to. In only a few
minutes I was looking at a photo of a 5½-month-old kitten who looked
*very* much like Jax.

He was local, and his name was Jack. That is only a coincidence, right?

A week later we brought Jack home and he has brought a great deal of
joy to the house. He'll never replace Jax, no cat could, but in a way,
his similarities to Jax in both appearance and behavior help us
remember our now-departed companion and Jack's own personality helps us
enjoy him on his own merits.

Perhaps it is all coincidental. Perhaps some power directed us. Perhaps
the spirit of Jax, the great comforter, made certain in his love for
us that we would find solace and a way to always remember him.

We love him, Brea is *almost* friends with him, and Tudie
tolerates him so he's well on his way to being an integral part
of the household.
