This article introduced me to the phrase "credence good".

And while a lot of economics is really just a political program dressed up in numbers and equations, sometimes economists describe and name something perfectly, and we can can all see our current world better

We're not doing the General Strike where I live, so to support the people of Minneapolis today I made a contribution to Mastodon-for-Minneapolis (https://www.grapevine.org/giving-circle/doWhZ3Z/Mastodon-for-Minneapolis).

If you're looking for a way to show your support today you could throw a few bucks their way.

[It's run by the same person (@heidilifeldman) who did Mastodon4Harris, so you can trust it!]

If your reaction is "WTF????", you can check here :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tube_tester (the section titled "Self Service"), or look at these beauties: https://vintagestoredisplay.info/2018/01/vintage-sylvania-electronic-tube-tester-self-service-lighted-store-display/

I'm reaching the age where people don't believe that the things I vaguely remember from my childhood ever existed.

Please reply if you have ever seen one of these in real life:

Seriously. Feels like animal cruelty naming him that. 😄

Student attendance at WiCSE sessions has tripled in the past year.

And we all know how important supporting students with tutoring and mentoring can be to helping them get through college and succeed in their careers.

Any help you can provide to these future women engineers is much appreciated.

(And boosts are appreciated too 😃)

CSUF is part of the Cal State University system - less famous that the UC system, serving a different purpose/community.

CSU schools provide education to returning students, and under-served students. CSUF helps lots of students from minority communities, many "first to college" in their families.

The CSU system is being hit with budget cuts, and has eliminated all tutors in ECS. Your contributions will help WiCSE meet that need.

It's that time of year again. Pumpkin spice latte time? No. Well, yes, but it's also time to ......

Support the next generation of women in technology!

The Women in CompSci and Eng (WiCSE) chapter at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) is looking to fund Student Study Group Leaders.

If that's enough for you I'll just drop the donation link here, but read on if you want more details...

Here's the video:

[Sorry, folks. Errors out with an HTTP 503. 🙁]

There was a fantastic band playing on the back side of Flag Staff Hill, at the base of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, on #Boston Common as part of #NoKings .

(These are some photos. I've also got a 30 second video with sound, but have no idea about posting a 77mb file. I'll try it in a reply to this post - hope I don't break anything!)

Also, to those people who claimed that this was arranged and paid for by Soros or whoever:

No freakin' way. These were so clearly individuals who came up with their own ideas, pulled out their Sharpies and highlighters or fired up the color printer, and did what they did for their love of their country and their sadness for what it has become.

Some observations from today's Boston #NoKings gathering:

- Dude with a scrawled "Stephen Miller is a Bitch!" placard.

- Guy with a "This is really John Roberts' Fault" sign.

- Woman whose sign referenced 1773, not 1776. When asked about it she said that's when the Tea Party took place, and that she had to look it up to be sure.

- Woman whose sign was about the nature of democracy, that had a small footnote at the bottom attributing it to John Locke.

I love my Boston nerds and bros.

@404mediaco

I can't decide which is the one that plays the banjo.

I like to get my news from startups that look like a post-punk Americana band from 2005 Brooklyn.

Quote of the day for me:

"maybe a touch of the aeon flux"
- @AliceFraser

because it sounds like something a quack physician from the 19th century would say, but really it's science fiction literary analysis.

It's an honorable place for a protest sign to end up.

(Location is fence of Granary Burying Ground, behind the Boston Athenaeum, across from Suffolk U.)

Looking forward to seeing folks at the Indivisible protest.

And to borrow a phrase from Sen. Elizabeth Warren:

Well, that was fun!

I was reviewing my total Harris/Walz contributions, and saw that I had room to make a nice sized one that would bring me up to a nice round total - and make sure that the campaign can go full strength all the way through to November 5th.

Of course I'm donating through #MastodonForHarris ( https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris), and it looks like I got to push us over the latest goal!

Oh, the dopamine.

@heidilifeldman

I donated to #MastodonForHarris. Join me: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris
