Kyu-Furukawa Gardens in Kita, Tokyo. The real-life location of the Rokkenjima Guesthouse from Umineko no Naku Koro ni, as pictured here in January 2026.

Spent the better part of an afternoon in this beautiful place. The atmosphere on the grounds is very special, with its blend of eastern and western influences.

Welcome to Rokkenjima, members of the Ushiromiya family.

The rules apply equally to all who can read the epitaph.

I sincerely pray that this night will be both intellectual and elegant.

Physically: sitting in a "very untidy" boudoir, mechanically nodding his head.

Mentally: in the composing hut, stretching tonality in absolute bliss.

Gustav Mahler, Letter to his wife Alma

After hearing it pronounced as both cha-root and shhh-root in the same presentation, I started having existential doubts. So:

"The Machine Stops"

I can't believe that this was written in 1909. So many themes that resonate today: embodied cognition, machine-mediated social relations, and even a spectacle of meaningless content.
