I'm making it in a black basket weave 100% cotton with a hexagon (bestagon) printed viscose lining.

The pattern is discontinued, and Wiksten have closed their shop, so I'm not gonna do much commentary on pattern itself other than I sized down and it's still Lorge. Also, this cotton is very unusual in that the weave is still somewhat see-through even when lined, but it has Significant Heft.

It's a combo of a coat, cardigan, and a weighted blanket in one; I'm so totally here for it.

Almost all of my October got eaten up by work, and my body being a dick (back issues continue, seasonal lurgy) so I got Fuck All Done.

But it doesn't mean I haven't made any progress on my sewing nonsense! I'm embarking on what I shall refer to as "Many Coats Project" which is just a bit of misnomer because it's both coats and jackets. But definitely many.

We're starting with a Wiksten controversial Kimono/Haori/Unfolding Jacket.

And I was right to be afraid. I chose the Upton skirt because it gives plenty of space for the print to speak for itself, but the print doesn't speak.

The print has a megaphone. The print is LOUD LOUD.

It takes your eyeballs hostage and starts dictating demands. Your plans not to negotiate with terrorists go out the window. You send in John McLane and it takes HIS machine gun.

I haven't been on here much because of combo of life shit needing done and hurty back. Life shit needing done is bad enough; doing it with a hurty back is worse.

But meanwhile I'm turning ancient and throwing a party today so I'm back on my sewing nonsense. I am giving myself a gift of Cashmerette Upton pleated skirt at tea length in a very vibrant cotton sateen I bought three years ago but had been afraid to tackle.

I didn't even think our view of eclipse was worth any effort and didn't get the fancy sunglasses. Instead I went around the place for half an hour looking at shadows. It was magical.

I was morose. I felt like I sew all the time but I have nothing to show for it. Unfinished projects. Sourcing buttons forever. Projects I sourced, but haven't gotten round to making for a yeaaars.

Then went into my Jira and ran a query to show me all the projects I _did_ complete in 2026, regardless of when they started.

Including the pants I finished today it's 13 garments and 16 projects total (two household, one alteration).

That's not fucking bad for July.

I bitch an awful lot about how slow I am when it comes to sewing. I almost had a cry about it this week, because there was a day I felt physically too shit to make ANY progress on my linen blend pants for holidays. I must suck!

But then I had a look at my stats.

My friends in the computer industry mock me for using Jira for my sewing, but Jira is fucking fantastic for real stats, not vague vibes, when it comes to tracking projects.

And Jira is what keeps me sane.

I just finished watching Spider-Noir and it's an absolute banger.

It being a Spiderman TV Show (my favourite superhero) is frankly secondary to its top qualities. Amazing cast, fab acting, great writing, and just absolutely stunning visuals¹.

10/10 will watch again. And again. And then again, just to take screenshots of the great outfits.

It's a two-coat paint as well so I won't really know if it's any good until the second coat dries.

By which time it will be dark.

I'm back onto horrid chores and tackled some wall painting (just a small section) after work.

It's a cool off-white colour that's labelled as "seashell" and the underlying colour was darker... so currently the wall looks like I schmeared toothpaste all over it which is just GREAT 🙃

Me Made May has begun!

I have never participated because I'm a bit of a "all or nothing" girl and every first of May since I started sewing fell on a sweatpants day.

This year I wanna, but I'm also horribly bad at taking photos of myself. It takes too goddamn long to take a good shot, and I'm also uncomfortable talking photos of myself in public, whilst the apartment is too cramped and dark to do there.

My latest sewing toot includes some hand drawn (digitally) diagrams and detailed explanations. I've been meaning to do things in this style for a while, to further explain techniques, or expand on pattern instructions, and generally make things easier on people new in the space.

A lot of current sewing instructions are video based, and I don't like that. I like diagrams.

But this took a long time to make, so I'm trying to gauge was it worth it? Pray tell.
