We have two Associate Professorship with Tutorial Fellowship positions open, one at Wadham College and one at Christ Church. Despite the odd names, these are our standard academic faculty positions. Both also have quite generous additional housing allowances. Closing date 16th Dec. Happy to answer any questions. https://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/aboutus/vacancies/vacancy-faculty-hiring.html

Now also mentioned on my blog, with a link to a provisional table of contents: https://patternsinfp.wordpress.com/2026/06/27/progress-on-the-book/

Sent off to the publisher today. At last! Still got the index, the solutions to exercises, and a proofread to go. But the end is in sight.

Haskell gurus: is it still possible these days (on a modern Mac) to run the Haskell School of Expression code from Paul Hudak's book? My attempts to install HGL and GLFW have been unsuccessful.

The whole proceedings is now freely accessible from Springer, until the end of November. Follow the referral link at https://trendsfp.github.io/2025/

Delighted to announce that the proceedings of TFP2025 are now (finally) published: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-99751-8 Thanks to authors and reviewers for making this happen!

Two postdocs in Tokyo, working with Taro Sekiyama on proof assistants, type systems, program logics, refinement, verification. https://hackmd.io/@TaroSekiyama/H1ewltLsxx

Oxford has openings for 7 faculty positions, across all of CS. Two are tutorial fellowships with undergraduate teaching responsibilities; five are on the part-time professional master's programme (where I teach). Closing date 17th December. Happy to discuss. https://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/aboutus/vacancies/vacancy-faculty-hiring.html

From the TYPES mailing list, Ichiro Hasuo posts about open positions at assistant and associate prof level (but I think not generally in line for tenure) at NII in Tokyo. He says: "I can certainly speak about my experience: Research is the top priority here. Little teaching (~ one course every two years for me); no undergrad students. You can still recruit and supervise grad students. Speaking Japanese is not needed at all (though it'll help your daily life). I enjoy scientific freedom. Yes, freedom." In case there are any refugees out there looking for at least temporary respite...

Lazyweb, please help. I understand that the category of pointed complete partial orders and continuous functions is not Cartesian closed; why not? Cartesian product is the categorical product, but I'm failing to find or construct a counterexample to the currying isomorphism.

This copy of Bird & de Moor's classic "Algebra of Programming" seems to be a very reasonable price (SEK249 ~= 20 GBP/EUR/USD). https://www.tradera.com/item/302937/662053292/algebra-of-programming-richard-bird-oege-de-moor-1997

I would hope that this covers independent researchers.

The waivers webpage says:

> Authors not covered by [arrangements for low-income countries] may apply for a discretionary waiver from ACM, based on financial need. The criteria used to evaluate such applications include:
>
> The corresponding author’s institutional affiliation
> The author’s departmental affiliation
> The author’s available research funding, its source, and whether it is applicable to APCs
> The funder's OA publication policies
> Other financial considerations

Does anyone have experience with calling on ACM's waiver of APCs for unfunded or unaffiliated authors? @JonathanAldrich maybe you have inside info?

Now there's a question to conjure with.

ult Thank you to everyone who contributed anecdotes and reminiscences for this. Apologies that I didn't manage to get everything in.
