As an ex-gnome dev I am aware that my opinion on what they should do is fairly irrelevant but moving as far away from C as they can to a memory safe language(*) would go a long way to reduce the amount of AI security audit problems. Not eliminate all problems but at least it would reduce the silly things that C makes so easy.

I know some people are making the move and that’s great but I think it would need to be a much more wholistic effort.

(* realistically Rust even if I think Swift would be better suited to their needs)

We've replaced so much stuff that could already by done with a chat bot frontend that is a measurably worse experience

There's a slack bot - it used to have a drop down menu of options - start a standup, log days off - and you clicked the menu item and it did the thing it needed to, immediately.

Now it's AI! so you have to type "start a standup" and wait multiple seconds while it chugs away "processing".

How have we let them monetize UI events?

I used to laugh when someone proposed a filesystem & shell-script based UI - a window was a directory, the child controls were subdirectories and each directory contained shell scripts for each event "window-close-event.sh" "left-click-event.sh" etc.
