My long blog post on the failure of Gamification as a tool that changes education, work, and our lives https://oskipa.github.io/gamification_failure.html
Psychological safety is key for systems improving. Our default command-and-control, authoritarianism, organization principle relies on fear. This contradiction is the source of tension on creating good quality and running good teams.
Scheme makes me so happy. I haven't been this happy with a language since learning Ruby in 2009
The most important idea I read yesterday was that each of our computer devices is a super computer with huge storages, but most we build centralized web apps.
Another nudge towards writing desktop apps
A lot of meta notes on how I am practicing

Find like-minded people and organize. Ask them to vote, write letters to congress, show up at demonstrations, volunteer as a group in the community and help via mutual aid. Live democracy within your group so that people can experience it first hand.
Fighting with people who disagree with you is a waste of time. That is time you are not organizing. Fights turn other people off your message.
Again, build democratic communities
Someone here said that Chat gpt was pushed out as a great product because the blockchain crashed and they wanted to make money from the gpus they bought.
I have been thinking about that
#FreeWriting
Wrote a micro fiction. My eldest child said it was cliché, but I don't care. The obsession with originality has killed so many writers who never mature aa writers because they obsessed too much on "originality."
The many dangerous defects if a Tesla car.
Note how Chinese regulators were the only ones who did their job and demanded a parts recall

Paper that says using copilot doesn't speed up development
@shriramk As you remember your professor, let me use this moment to thank you for How to Design Programs. I found it through a MOOC in the last decade. I was out of college and already working as a software developer.
It changed the way I write programs. My tests became better. It sparked my ongoing interest in writing good developer documentation.
I am that elusive student that never went to your university or even took an online class with you. We never met in person. I have only learned from your book and some recordings from your lectures. Yet your teachings have has a profound impact in my professional life and in those of my colleagues.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with so many people like me. Even if it is rare when we get a chance to express it to you, there are many of us who deeply appreciate your work and generosity
Listen respectfully and avoid confrontations.
It is tempting to fight with right wingers or leftists you disagree with out of frustration or to try to persuade them. It may feel good at the moment, but it is a waste of time. We don't have a lot of time right now.
Find the people who agree with you and organize with them
When organizing against fascism, find the people who agree with you to build friendships with them. This builds community. You need organize communities or organized action
Developer documentation on your projects is a tool. A tool to understand the app or system. Tools' worth depends on their usefulness
I wrote a series of developer documentation aphorisms. https://oskipa.github.io/general-notes-on-developer-documentation.html
"Getting to Yes" is a great book because it reframes negotiation from con men sophistry to respectfully listening to others to solve common problems and build relationships
I worked on AOC on my personal laptop. Got my two stars. I run the input file from my work account. My input number is too high 🤔
I don't encourage newer devs to try vim or emacs because I don't want to make using them a marker of being a real dev.
Now I wonder if I am denying them the opportunity to use great tools.
Maybe I can suggest it as an option as something cool in itself
