being unknown and not sharing your entire existence to everyone online is cool, actually

Larson: Are insecure code completions a vulnerability?

Post quantum cryptography is no longer an optional feature, or something nice to have, it's now a baseline requirement to call your system secure in any capacity tbh

IP addresses: famously NOT supposed to be used as persistent identifiers exactly because of dumb shit like this

fuck anyone who does that, you're just doing things wrong.

fuck you again if you don't think you're wrong, because you definitely are, and your unchecked stupidity fucks up my life on a daily basis, assholes.

I used to open the fucking computer and just browse the fucking web, I hate what corporations and governments did to the things I love and help build

every day I open the internet and spend 15-20 minutes cycling IP addresses in order to hit a winning combination that allows me to access all three (3) centralized services I regularly use to communicate with people, without one of them arbitrarily blocking me based on made up bullshit metrics

I wonder if soldiers ever complain about AI taking their jobs

fedi there is so much full force sloperating happening in open source accounting software...

no, NO look at me fedi, I know it's boring but you need to look at the accounting software, it's bad ok, it's really fucking bad out there, and I don't think your financial situation should depend on whatever logic an LLM spat into a bunch of accounting software without review

I feel this deep in my soul

The thing I loved changed, and then it was put to work doing things I’m not proud to be associated with. That’s a different kind of loss than just “the tools moved on.”

oh shit, with #Autocrypt v2 being worked on, that means #Deltachat and other chatmail systems will have post-quantum security and full perfect forward secrecy support!

that means basically the only lingering issues I had with Deltachat as a personal messenger are completely gone

seriously go to https://delta.chat/ right now and try it out

fedi I've been programming for 15 hours straight, my code is linear but the output is nondeterministic, type abstraction has lost all meaning

send help, for I have sinned, and this is my purgatory

I feel my brain growing more wrinkles every time I try something new in Rust and the windows platform crashes my shit

that and despair, so much despair

the whole XSLT situation and chromium wanting to just bulldoze their way through forcing changes on the web again really reminds me of why I dislike sham standards orgs like whatwg

whatwg is literally just a corporate circlejerk created by business industry leaders because the W3C didn't want to do what they asked with HTML... and at this point I continue to have very little faith in what they do, I honestly don't even regard their standards to be of reasonable quality, I mostly encourage people to ignore them because behind every major change is a team of like 10 corporate employees for big tech who actually made all the real choices, despite the veneer of community involvement that they try to show the public still

anyone know why the source code for the NSS library is like 70MB large while gzipped???

I just don't understand how that happens, I think OpenSSL does more shit with less code size tbh

this entire post boils down to "actually I had to baby the AI 90% of the time and do most of the job for it, but at least it spat out slop code to save me typing"

yeah and???
what do these people think software development IS? because I can tell you right now it's not just producing code... in fact the faster you produce code the worse you are usually

TIL that the rsa crate for Rust has a timing sidechannel attack in the implementation and it's just... unfixed since 2023
